Sapporo Izakaya — Restaurant in The Woodlands

• Edited with an update* We stopped in for lunch today and were definitely underwhelmed. I think it is because it was lunch, but the sushi was not made very well. The salmon fillet in the Bento box was way overcooked and over sauced, and the tempura was soggy. The ramen was a bit bland and skimpy. The service was top notch, but we will not be returning for lunch again. Honestly, If we had had been served this lunch without having had such a great experience with dinner, we would not return to Sapporo Izakaya. We will give them another shot at dinner. Maybe they do not have the same caliber of chef/kitchen staff at lunch. *

Sapporo Izakaya is probably the best sushi & ramen restaurant, that I have ever eaten at. We are new to the area from the west coast, and I have not had luck in finding a great sushi restaurant. We have had some pretty horrid experiences, but mostly just meh when it comes to sushi in the area. I am soooo glad the mediocre place, thatI was planning on going to, did not have a table for us; and we stumbled upon this Gem! The fish is fresh and prepared perfectly.... The ramen was so tasty and luxurious... The grilled salmon was incredible...The tempura was an impressive selection that was soooo crunchy and flavorful without being greasy. I recently had dinner there. I ordered seven pieces of sushi, two being pieces of smoked salmon. I proceeded to eat one and knew something was wrong immediately and spit the remaining portion into a napkin and called the waiter over. Told him it was bad. He took the other piece away to “try”. Came back and said that yes, something was off it. My guest and I paid and left. An hour later we met up with friends and I became violently ill. We weren’t far from the restaurant so went there first to let them know to stop serving the salmon. Went to the hospital and sure enough after getting my stomach pumped they found bacteria. I called the restaurant a day later. I had no intention of proceeding further. Simply wanted to at least get the meal cost reembursed as well as medical costs paid. They said I’d be called back. Never happened. I physically went in asking that the owners contact me and was now getting upset because they showed no signs of even caring about what had happened. It has been almost 3 weeks since I last went in and still to date no one has reached out to me. I’ve had good experiences there in the past and I live in the real world and understand that things like this happen. Although it is unacceptable for their lack of care or concern over a guest who got sick from the food they served. On a side note….when I went in they did try to put all blame on their distributor. The place isn’t bad but if you get sick there don’t expect for them to give any...

Sapporo Izakaya absolutely deserves five stars, and Zoha made the experience unforgettable! From the moment we walked in, she greeted us with such warmth and professionalism, instantly making us feel at home. Her hospitality was outstanding, and she gave thoughtful recommendations that completely elevated our meal.

On Zoha’s suggestion, we tried the O Toro Roll, the Texans Roll, the Beef Negimaki, and the Ahi Snow Tuna—each one was incredible. The O Toro Roll was rich and buttery, the Texans Roll had just the right kick, the Beef Negimaki was tender and flavorful, and the Ahi Snow Tuna was fresh and beautifully presented. Every bite felt like the perfect choice, and we never would have picked so well without her guidance. Even order some to go as well!

Zoha’s combination of knowledge, warmth, and attentiveness turned dinner into a truly special experience. She went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect, and it really showed. This was a solid 10/10 visit, and I’ll definitely be coming back to Sapporo—and recommending it to...
