I love waffle house. Have been eating at Waffle House my entire life. I've lived in the metro Atlanta area for over 35 years and have eaten at Waffle Houses all over the southeast.
I've been living in Thomaston for the past five years and have tried it many times and each time it's a let down. This is BY FAR the worst Waffle House I've ever been to. Unfortunately it's the only place in town that you can get a bite to eat 24/7. I'm assuming the lack of competition is the reason their standards are allowed to stay so low. I have phoned in food orders and not once has my order been placed on the first call. You typically have to call 4-5 times and they'll pick up the phone and hang up on you the first several calls. Even during slow hours, it's like they just don't want to work.
I went in tonight after an event with my family as it was the only thing open. We were optimistic because there was a lot of open parking in the lot so we assumed they were relatively slow. We get inside, two uncleaned booths (whoever used those booths must have been gone at least 10 or so minutes because we had to get our small children out of the car and nobody left the building while we were parked out front) and there was nobody sitting at the counter and nobody waiting. So not an empty diner, but not full either. The waitress greets us and tells us we can feel free to sit at the counter, though I'm not sure how she thought that would work with an 18 month old child? We told her we'd like a booth and she cleaned one off for us. We ordered our drinks and our food without incident but when it arrived, our grilled cheese was bread that was barely hot on the outside (didn't look buttered and wasn't even toasted) with a still cold and unmelted slice of cheese on the inside. We never received our three orders of bacon and for some reason my grits tasted sour, almost like they were cooked in lime water, and there were still large dry clumps in them like the bottom of the pot was never stirred.
The service was laughable, half of our food was inedible, and the staff were fighting throughout our entire visit. I didn't notice at first as my back was to the cooking area, but my wife was watching and the lady behind her yelled "whoa now, calm down!" and I turned and looked and two of the workers were shoving each other as their argument escalated. When I paid, I told the guy to remove the items we never received and he looked over and it was all sitting near the grill, it had been there for almost half an hour and not a single employee bothered to find out where it was supposed to go.
I've given this place chance after chance to rise to the standard that is pretty uniform across all other Waffle Houses, but this place is just helpless. The workers there have no interest in maintaining quality standards and none of them belong in the service industry. And it's got to be an issue that goes right up through the management and ownership because I've seen a lot of new faces working here over the last five years and it never changes so it can't be a case of a few bad apples at the bottom. From now on when I need to eat late in Thomaston, I'll go home and make...
Read moreIf I could give this place 0 stars I would. Yes we got our drinks and food quickly. I ordered the all star breakfast scrambled eggs hashbrowns add cheese, ham and onion. Got my plate my eggs had cheese. They were not good. My son ordered the steak plate. He asked for medium well it was beyond done. He could not even eat it. My friends food was messed up. I literally tried for 30 minutes to get the server's attention never came. I finally got up and went and told them as they were making a small to go order I need a to go box and to go drinks. 7 people in there and never once in those 30 minutes we were there did they come and ask if we wanted or needed anything else. Will...
Read moreI was traveling to visit family over the holidays and took everyone to this Waffle House for breakfast. I thought it would be a good place for everyone. We were not disappointed. The customer service was great and the food was on point. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because of the cleanliness related to the floors. All Waffle House restaurants are arranged so you can actually see the cook prepare your meals, therefore, I must say the food preparation area was very clean. But, the floors were a little greasy and that could pose a bit of hazard for my Mom (90 years old) and my granddaughter (5 years old). Other than that I recommend you visit for a nice fresh and...
