I want to start by saying, that this is a really cute restaurant, with a nice ambience, and wonderful staff.
The food was excellent. The corned beef hash, was well balanced, and delightfully flavorful. The potatoes were perfectly seasoned, and the hollandaise was nice and rich.
The first squeezed orange juice was also delicious... But that's where things get a little weird. While The corned beef I felt was fairly priced, The orange juice was INSANE! A small 8 to 10 oz glass of orange juice, it was $8.50. (I can get a gallon of organic fresh squeezed orange juice at whole foods for $11.99). Had I known it was going to be that expensive, I would have never have ordered it, but I couldn't have known that it was going to be that expensive when I ordered it, because The server did exactly like a good server is supposed to, and asked if I wanted one before I sat down, and was even given a menu.
I had considered getting the French toast, which they can do gluten-free, because they carry Udi's gluten-free bread... But they do charge a premium of $2.99 for it. The thing about the difference between the regular bread, and the GF bread, is that the GF bread is half as thick, and a smaller size. So you're paying a premium, for less than half of the same entree. I understand that cost can be a thing... But a loaf of Udi's gluten-free bread, is $8 at every major grocery store (Even whole foods). I can guarantee, that the premium bread that they use for their thick cut French toast, is quite comparably priced, and you get half as many slices in a loaf.
I've been working in hospitality for 30 years, and have designed and priced many menus. This level of disparity in pricing, is a definite issue.
Thankfully, like I said... The food was delicious and The staff was amazing. Incredibly friendly, ultimately professional, and not the cause of any of my distress (When I brought the subject up, despite already having paid, the manager was kind enough to remove it. I wasn't asking, or expecting it, but they insisted). This problem is all with the parent company for Marmalade Cafe.
Do I recommend eating there... Absolutely. You will not be disappointed in The culinary part of your experience... Just make sure you look at the menu first before ordering anything, because when given the chance, the company will apparently...
Read moreI’m a delivery driver for Uber eats and I deliver for 4 other food delivery services as well, and have now for almost 3 years. I have exceptional ratings and feedback and have never had a poor pickup experience until tonight. I felt extremely discriminated against as well as embarrassed. Upon my arrival I was looked up and down and rudely dogged down by a bigger set woman that appeared to be the hostess and possible manager of some sort and since she chose not to greet me I figured maybe the way this establishment is set up I have to pick up the driver orders at the bar like other places do. So I stand over at the bar with my very noticeable hot food bag and the female bartender who is not busy at all ignores me and walks off. There were only two patrons at the seats. They as well as many other customers looked very concerned why no one that worked there would even look at me let alone ask me for help. I then recheck my order and see that it says to sit at the bench and someone will come help me. I follow those instructions and was passed by numerous more times by this hostess woman... she came within 5 feet of me multiple times while I was there. Two other men servers did the same and I could feel myself turning red with embarrassment by all of this and it only got worse as I heard the heavy set hostess woman talk so inappropriately about me personally and how she knew she wasn’t helping me and would continue not to when the male servers asked her why she hadn’t. She said something about it not being fair that I could just walk in here for a drivers service and get such an amazing big order and huge tip when I could just sit there and they had to work twice as hard for it. It was right then I canceled the order directly through Uber eats and left a poor remark which I’ve never done in all my years as well as called Uber eats to tell them about my experience. I lost out on a huge payment tonight and tip because your staff rudely mistreated me. She also went on to talk about how one of the servers was very sick that was working and she was keeping her distance from them. That is just foul and against health code and sounds like a violation to me. If you and your staff view myself and other drivers as a threat then I believe you should cut ties with the food delivery corporations. But...
Read moreIncreasingly disappointed with this place. I understand how difficult it must be to run a restaurant right now. And while I am trying to be a good member of the community and do my part to help keep the local restaurants afloat, I continue to be let down by many of them. Marmalade has been no exception. This past Sunday might have been the last straw for us.
We have ordered food for pick up about 6 times since April. Not once has our order been right. It's either been missing condiments, sauce, bread, toast, or something of that nature. Pretty trivial for the most part. I'm inclined to let that slide. But with what breakfast is costing and what we are getting in return, it's time to speak up.
It would be one thing if there was a line out the door for to go orders and things came out the way they did yesterday as a result, but there wasn't. I'm just going to post the picture and let you see for yourself. All I did was move the toast. There were not three eggs on that. The potatoes looked/tasted old, the bread was stale, and the onions were all burnt. The hollandaise and hash were solid, though. For $20 bucks with the tip, I'm going to be giving this place a hard pass until things get back to normal.
6/28/2025 update…chicken and waffles are not good. A mimosa is 14 bucks. $40 for terrible chicken and waffles and one mimosa. Chicken was overdone and rock hard. And the weird bacon jam was smoky....
