Ideally, I'd give Jane/Marin a 3.5/5.
Jane/Marin offers a convenient location for a coffee and pastry break. Nestled in a strip mall with various stores, Jane/Marin provides a casual atmosphere for a quick bite. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, which is a plus.
The bakery itself is quite colorful and cheerful. The flower pots outside and the bright green chairs create a vibrant first impression. Inside, the wall art explodes with shades of yellow, orange, and red. However, a minor quirk – finding the restroom can be a bit of a challenge. They don't have a dedicated public restroom, but the staff will kindly point you towards one in the back office if you ask.
Jane/Marin offers a classic selection of bakery treats – biscuits, cupcakes, croissants, muffins, breads - you name it. They also have a full coffee and tea menu. My friend tried their turmeric latte and a sweet treat (the name escapes me). Unfortunately, the pastry was quite hard and needed reheating, and he wasn't a huge fan of the flavor either. His turmeric latte also seemed light on the turmeric, tasting more like steamed milk.
On the other hand, my experience was much better. I ordered a chai latte and their banana bread. The staff was very friendly and readily warmed up the banana bread for me. It was absolutely delicious – light, delicate, and perfectly balanced in sweetness. I should have grabbed a slice to go! My chai latte was good, with a nice chai flavor that wasn't overpowering. However, it did have a lot of froth, which can be a bit much for some.
Overall, Jane/Marin offers a decent selection of coffee and pastries in a cheerful setting. The staff is friendly, and the banana bread is a must-try. However, there's room for improvement with some menu items, and the lack of a dedicated restroom can be a bit inconvenient. If you're in the area and looking for a casual coffee break, it's worth a visit, but keep your...
Read moreThis place missed the mark. They clearly are priced to cater to the 94920 crowd. The area behind the counter was dirty. While waiting in line we saw one of the employees wipe the counter edge with a rag, then wipe the steam thing on the espresso maker, then wipe his hands, all with the same rag. That rag then went on to the espresso machine shelf. And then a lady walked in with her dog. Not a service dog, just her dog in her arms. Employees didn’t care. The abstract painting on the back wall is an interesting color scheme for a food establishment as it looks like smeared blood.
The 6 inch Yule log was $42. At the quality and size of the Yule log and the amount they were selling, it was beyond over priced. Even $30 would have been over priced. It was covered in an inch of flavorless chocolate ganache. Not made to look like a typical Yule log at all, no resemblance to a “log” except for being slightly log shape. It was odd, there was zero chocolate flavor despite being a literal inch of ganache on all sides. The cake itself was also lacking any sort of flavor and on the dry side. The filling was I guess was a coffee whipped cream. The ganache needed to be at room temp to get a fork through it but the filling needed to be at fridge temp to hold up and prevent it from melting. It was also a shock to have the coffee flavor as when we asked about the Yule log, we were only told it was chocolate flavor. The only decor on the entire cake were 6 3mm “gold” stars that seemed to be purchased and then painted “gold”...
Read moreMy first time visiting Sweet Treats was in San Francisco....
Visiting a friend at the maternity ward down the street, we thought we should bring some cookies. I am no sweet-tooth, but I lost my mind in their hospital room, upon snacking on these Sweet Thing treats. It's the same store as the one near our house in Tiburon.. but wow. They offered our gift to them, to us... and this cookie I bit into was decadent and transcendent. The chocolate covered marshmallow smore cookie, as a surprise, was a giddy, rare treat. i had no idea of the gooey warmth about to wash over me, but it's the first time I have eaten a cookie in 30 years where it felt as magical and special a moment as when we were 5.
So, when we move to Tiburon, and this is on the way out of the city, I have found good reason to stop by both morning and night. A delightful staff, incredible and impossibly delicious temptations - from full gluttony to fair snack.
It's amazing that you can actually enjoy sweets when they are properly made... with nuance, and character, rather than the typical overdose of sugar and lack of complexity. Perfect for...
