Really a nice time - but get there early or late!
The food is excellent, mostly baked in the oven breakfast and lunch. I had the 2 egg scrambled with smoked salmon, it's really a thick omelette served with a small side salad, it was really good. I recommend getting a side of the house made pork sausage (it's in patty form) that comes with pickled onions and dill mustard sauce, savory and delightful. The person I was with had the Finnish pancakes (Pannekakku?) with lingon berry sauce, it's very nice with a soft buttery consistency from being baked rather than pan cooked.
I tried the aquavit sampler (traditional), the first time I've had aquavit. It all tastes like Caraway seeds to me with a slight difference from different herb mixes used to flavor it. Not bad at all, but strong; think seasoned vodka. The flights come with "house pickles," but it's really just a small skewer of pickled, beet heavy veggies that would be served with a single martini in most bars, it's not a snack. I was still pleased since I ordered it just to try a new liquor.
The dining area and the building in which the restaurant is located are beautiful and composed of clean lines in light colored wood and plain cement with huge windows. Beautiful. There's also a gift shop with various Scandinavian goodies including candies and chocolate. If you're interested there's also pastry, coffee, and breakfast booze (mimosa, bloody Mary) available to order while you wait, which brings me to the only downside.
Get to this place when they open, or come after noon. It's incredibly packed, and no one wants to rush to leave - it's just too nice an experience. Typically a lot of people leave at the same time, but you will have a long walk for them to go if you show up around 10. I got there at 10:30am and waited every bit of an hour and 15 minutes to get a seat. There is a lot to look at while you're waiting, and the seating spread around the inside of the building is just adequate, but if you're already very hungry you're going to be ravenous by the time you're seated and the wait staff, while nice, is not in a rush and is generally taxed to capacity with the large number of patrons.
Anyway, it's a great experience, and if you bring a friend along to chat and have drinks with then the wait isn't too bad even if you come at peak hours. Make sure to get a picture with the wooden troll and enjoy the neat photos in the rear...

We came here on a Monday for brunch. We waited about 5 minutes before being seated, so I'm guessing they are very popular even on weekdays. Not a bad wait at all though! It was our first time coming here. It's very Scandinavian. The carved wooden doors are beautiful and the design of this place is so aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Lots of intention went into this place, making it not just a place to enjoy good food but a place for Nordic people to gather and celebrate their heritage.
The food is delicious. I ordered the breakfast bowl and a side of pork sausages with their hibiscus lemonade. My husband enjoyed their savory Lefse breakfast. All of this was so tasty! I loved my breakfast bowl. It is perfect for vegans and those who are looking for something gluten free. I liked the mustard that went with my pork sausage. It wasn't spicy. My husband was very full from the Lefse breakfast, and he said he loved the cheese and mushroom filling with the eggs on top.
One thing I will note is that there is no soy milk for a milk substitution. There is only oat milk, so if you're unable to have oatmilk, you may want to try their lemonade drinks and forego the speciality hot drinks (they sound delicious!).
Take a quick walk on their trail outside to the troll! There is a Fogelbo home you can tour too. It was closed when we went, so we'll be back next time to tour that. This place is family friendly. Lots of events happening here....
Read moreThis is a small cozy restaurant so I wasn't surprised to hear that I had a 20 min. (Turned out closer to 30 min. Wait) wait. The good news was that they did offer coffee while you wait (Coffee bar pictured) and had an interesting exhibit in the waiting area.
Once seated we ordered the Danish Mary and the Icelandic 75 drinks. The Icelandic 75 is perfect for those who love lemon, it was refreshing, crisp and would be perfect on a warm day. Now, I am not a fan of bloody Mary's though I love tomato but this is not your average bloody Mary. To begin with they make their own mix with dill taking center stage. It finishes with a spicy kick, not enough to make you cry in fact it was perfectly balanced with spice and herbaceous yummy goodness garnished with veggies. Surprising to me I really enjoyed the cherry tomato the most, something about the sweet burst of fruit with the spicy, herbaceous drink struck the right chord if I could I'd have a bowl of cherry tomatoes with the drink.
The baked egg dishes came out in these cast iron dishes and the bread served with them was delicious. I also had their pancakes which were delicious pancake balls served with a yummy lemon curd and berry jam.
The atmosphere was equally enjoyable with a wonderful view of the forest. Although this is a beautifully set place with good food believe me, the bloody Mary is the star...
