Iâve visited many Peruvian restaurants locally and abroad; including in Peru itself. This place is a great addition to the offerings of Peruvian cuisine in the Portland Metro area. The food tastes authentic and thatâd be appreciated by those who like the original taste of Peruvian food. I very much enjoyed the Leche de Tigre (lime sauce) in the Ceviche Mixto; it was creamy and tasty as itâs supposed to be. The ceviche mixto was also served with a good balance of high quality fresh seafood and fish, and starchy items like soft sweet potato and cancha; this is a detail which is often overlooked by other restaurants. Some restaurants include a far too small amount of either fish or seafood with Ceviche Mixto. I also enjoyed the Seco de Cordero. In particular, I appreciated that the meat came off the bone effortlessly. I will however remark that the Seco was slightly on the salty side, but otherwise well cooked and flavorful; perhaps the extra salt was a just a one off thing. My wife enjoyed the Arroz con Pollo; which was equally tasty, well made and well proportioned. Our server was very attentive, efficient and friendly. And the atmosphere is certainly warm and fitting to Peruvian history and culture. I do advise to anyone going to beware that parking could be a little tight. And if you do eat Gluten Free, I strongly recommend confirming the menu with your server as some items are marked Gluten Free but in reality might not be; this could be something for the owners to improve on. We were excited to see Gluten Free Papa a la Huancaina on the menu, only to find out it was actually not GF. This offering could be made true with use of Gluten Free crackers or Gluten Free bread and it would be a great distinguishing factor from other Peruvian restaurants. Except for that, I absolutely recommend visiting this restaurant for anyone who loves authentic...
Read moreYou wouldn't recognize this restaurant if you drove past it. It is on a very busy highway in an unremarkable location. Parking is nearly impossible because of construction in the area. When we arrived, we had a party of 14. The hostess said that my friend, who had made the reservation had cancelled it! I said that wasn't possible because I had just come from my friend's house and she was excited about the restaurant and would be arriving momentarily. The hostess didn't believe me!! With 7 of the party standing there and a near empty restaurant (that looks like a fast food joint- and is surrounded by fast food joints), she made us call my friend on the phone to confirm the reservation. The restaurant hostess was so disrespectful that I would have walked out then, but didn't want to desert my friends. We were all seated when my friend arrived. The misunderstanding occurred when my friend called in the morning and let them know that 2 people on the reservation wouldn't be coming. The English of the restaurant staff is so poor that instead of removing 2 from the party, they cancelled the whole reservation. Two in our party didn't receive the food they requested. The waitress/ hostess (same person) messed up the orders. The restaurant guests didn't return the food to be corrected, but we will not be going back. The food was delicious but I don't need to spend $17 for chicken fried rice. No one needs to spend money on rude hostesses, food not served as ordered, and a poor atmosphere. There are just too many fantastic restaurants to visit without putting up with that. ...
Read moreThis was my first time here, and unfortunately, it will be my last unless the service improves. The food was flavorfulâI ordered the Lomo Saltado and my friend ordered Tallarines a la Huancaina con Lomo Saltado. We enjoyed the dishes but the customer service left much to be desired.
We both ordered Passionfruit Mojitos, which were delicious if you enjoy a touch of tartness. I was happy with mine but decided to pair my dinner with a glass of wine. However, the selection by the glass was very limited. I asked for a small taste of one wine before committing to a full glass, but the server bluntly responded, âWe donât do that here.â I clarified that I was only asking for a single sip of one wine, not multiple, but was met with the same response: âWe donât need that.â
I then asked if I would still be charged if the wine I ordered turned out to be bad. The server didnât answer, so I decided to stick with another Mojito. My friend, trying to avoid any further hassle, ordered a glass of wine instead. When the wine arrived, it had a strong âgym socksâ smell. My friend took a couple of sips but couldnât drink itâit was clear the wine had been sitting open for too long. Unfortunately, he was still charged for it.
While I enjoyed the flavors of the food, the unfriendly service was disappointing. Good food deserves to be paired with better customer service so I will try another...
