Train depot themed restaurant...a true must-see for local vibes. A buffet (in small train cars) has a salad car, pizza car (5-6 varieties of rectangular pizza), side salad car has dried out small flat Italian sub-type sandwiches and a warmer serves breadstick shaped sugary pastries with a squirt bottle of creamy icing for us to add more sugary fun. Spaghetti comes with the buffet, be sure to ask for it and you can also get mushroom style meat sauce spaghetti...do not miss this! Seating is booths (sorta like train car style booths) and tables. The restaurant has a lot of age. Expect dark woods, worn table top vinyl and seat tears. The decor is all part of the Shack tradition. I think if the place was updated it would lose its local charm. (Keeping the vinyl table top covers fresh and getting the seats free from tears would be nice. Management seems to do annual repairs of these 2.) Pizza is fine and is well stocked, even on busy nights. Salad bar based on making a good salad, with lots of toppings and dressings. Crackers are there, too, thank you! Italian subs are always dry but seem fresh with no tomato or lettuce. Another warmer holds garlic bread. Dessert sticks are the hit of the buffet...always add some of the icing. Spaghetti is my fav, always the mushroom version. A server walks the room continually refilling beverages, nice! Servers are local teens so they may or may not be on top of things like picking up your pile of used plates on your table. I do wish they would smile more. Cashier is friendly as is the hostess if a hostess is on duty. Tables are cleared quickly so there is no waiting, even on the busiest of times. By the cashier check out the cooler with fresh pizza to buy and cook at home. Same pizza as at the buffet. You will leave full but not entirely impressed with the slightly above average food. But you will appreciate the hustle of the kitchen, keeping the buffets stocked, the tables readied quickly after patrons leave, and most of all...that feeling of being a part of the Tipton, IN, community! It is one of those very established small town businesses out-of-towners can easily mix into the small town community and...
Read moreOUR FIRST UNUSUAL experience with this resturaunt. Atmosphere is great! Service is excellent! The pizza we got tonight was not good. The sauce was not seasoned ...it was plain. The texture of the crust and the flavor reminded me of the pizza slices that were served at school back in the day! Less than average . This was the all meat pizza. The two different kinds of cheese gave it an unpleasant flavor as well. American cheese with mazzarella was baked on this pie for the ordered extra cheese. I dont think this is normally how this pie is made. This gave the pizza a more unpleasant flavor to me. This is not the norm for this resturaunt. I think their supply or inventory of food wasn't enough for the many parties and guests they had scheduled tonight. 2 high school class reunions and the general public on a very busy Saturday night. This might be the reason the pizza was less than quality tonight. We have always liked the food served here. The crowd got the best of them tonight and not with the service. Their servers were on top of it! They were great! I just did not enjoy the pizza we ordered at all . My husband that it was just okay so he took the left overs home. The box for the 16 inch pizza would not fit in our Large Samsung refrigerator! Lol the box was too big! We've been loyal customers to this place for many many years! We will be back , and we will ask more about the all meat pizza and how it's...
Read moreWe recently placed a carry-out order for an event we hosted with about 20 guests, and everything turned out wonderfully! The entire process was smooth, efficient, and hassle-free. I called on a Tuesday, not realizing they were closed, but Jama, one of the owners, kindly answered my call. We were able to place our order without any issues—she even confirmed that it was received and would be ready by our specified date and time.
One of our guests had a gluten allergy, so we made sure to order a gluten-free pizza for her. She raved about how delicious it was and appreciated that they offered the gluten-free option. It was an extra $3.00, but definitely worth it given her allergy and the quality of the pizza.
Jama was very accommodating, tailoring the order to our needs and letting us know they were happy to make adjustments if necessary. We also ordered a large, custom-made salad at a great price, which was a fantastic value.
Our order was ready exactly when promised. While I wasn’t the one who picked it up, I heard the staff were friendly and welcoming. Everything was perfectly prepared and accounted for—no issues at all.
The Shack truly went above and beyond to meet our needs. From customizing the menu to accommodating dietary restrictions, they exceeded our expectations. We’re incredibly grateful for their excellent service...
