John's Fish Market & Sandy's Fish and Chips — Restaurant in Tisbury

We came here after reading a positive review from our airbnb, sadly it was disappointing. The fish and chips though "looked good" were not seasoned well. Also, when I bit down into my clam cake I felt the horrible grit and pain of SAND! It was clear the clams were not properly cleaned before meaking the cakes. Not to mention, the clams were too hard to chew and I was forced to spit them out! I'm sad because this was our first official meal on the island and it was a complete miss. I was also disappointed with their response to me sharing that there was sand in the clam cakes. "We are sorry about that," is not sufficient considering the amount of food we purchased. There was no offer of a refund on that item or even a discount. The least they could have done was given us some free ice cream, since that appears to be the only thing people pulled up for. I guess we should have known something was up when NONE of the people who drove up went inside for food. So..a few things. Overall my experience here ended up ok. But it began a bit shaky. We went when we first got on the island per a family members recommendation. The lobster roll was great. The fish and chips were also great. So we decided to go back a few days later. The calm plate was ok…the fried shrimp were a huge problem. The shrimp was not and I repeat was not deveined. I brought the shrimp back in asked a few people behind the counter if this was as a mistake and they looked at me like I was from another planet. They explained to me that they never devein shrimp when fried. I’ve never had shrimp without it being deveined. The vein is the intestinal track of the shrimp. Usually filled with feces. This vein should always be taken out. My order was changed, but I am surprised that I is was a bit reprimanded for asking about a pretty common and...

Worst dining experience I’ve had in awhile. Ordered a fish and chips and order of mussels… waited and waited and waited… 1 hour later, finally went in to ask because we had a ferry to catch and they hadn’t even started the order. I guess they lost it. Finally get the food and the mussels were spilled all over the fish and chips, so they’re a soggy mess. They gave us 3 raw oysters for free (I guess as an apology) so all we ended up with to eat was that and the mussels. Still hungry and not happy my time and money was wasted. We also had another party with us and they waited almost as long as us. Seems like they cater to phone orders because we saw tons of people picking up orders while we waited. Don’t recommend.
