The bakery definitely benefits from the iconic Black Dog name and the amazing fortune for being the first eatery you see coming off the ferry. But, as many know, that convenience usually comes at the cost of lower quality of just about everything.
Please keep in mind, everyone's tastes are individual to themselves. However, we found our experience here as one that could have been much better.
We find the coffee to be weak. My husband got hot coffee (points for temperature) and I got iced (major points for having simple syrup, although the ratio is off so it's more like sweet water than syrup. If you like your coffee sweet, be prepared to put a lot in there).
My husband ordered an everything bagel with butter. He was given cream cheese instead because (not kidding) they were out of butter. Being located 50 feet from Stop and Shop, this was pretty disappointing. But on the other hand, given the poor bagel reviews, maybe he dodged a bullet. He got a coffeecake muffin instead (which was totally fine but nothing to rave about).
I got a chocolate croissant, which looked like it would have been good if it was heated up but given to me cold... It was a hard, albeit sweet, not terribly enjoyable croissant with ends that were so hard and burnt you could only really eat the middle.
The staff was nice, especially at the end of one of the hardest seasons imaginable. Dealing with loads of tourists streaming off ferries every day can't be easy even in a good year.
All in all, my recommendation is if you need something to tide yourself over this is a fine place to go. But if you're going to be cranky about botched results or you're picky by nature either go somewhere else or know what you're getting into before ordering and then don't be a jerk if it's not up to...
Read moreI usually love visiting the black dog, well, anything. I just have a very warm view of the brand. However, this visit was terrible. There was a line and it moved pretty quickly. So that was good. The counter staff that waited on me looked miserable. I ordered a muffin and large coffee. She charged me, got my muffin and placed it on the counter in front of me and just walked away. I assumed to get my coffee. Then I saw her walking up and placing 2 small coffees further down, at another party of the counter. Then I noticed a large coffee sitting there. I asked the the other counter staff, "should I be waiting somewhere else for my coffee?" She was pleasant and said, "oh yes, it's over there," pointing toward where I saw the coffee sitting. I walked over, hung around and never heard anyone call my name or anything. So, I asked another customer, "how do you know which coffee is yours?" He responded, "we just guessed." So, I did the same and took the one that had been sitting on the counter. Then I go the the fixing station. It was dirty, most things were empty except the overspill bucket which was nearly overflowing itself. I couldn't wait to get out of there. I'll definitely not be going back. I'll walk up to Mocha...
Read moreCoffee here is watery and terrible. I ordered a cold brew and asked about the quality before purchasing. She assured me they let it sit for 24 hours and then serve. What I received was a watery coffee. It tasted like regular brewed coffee poured over ice. I kindly asked the blonde girl if she could swap my cold brew for a hot coffee with coconut milk. She was incredibly rude and had an attitude. I said thank you and she did not acknowledge me at all. I highly recommend purchasing your coffee elsewhere. If the owners or managers see this, please look up a proper recipe for cold brew. I ordered along with 3 other girls and they also shared that their coffee was watery and a waste of money. We want to pour our money into local businesses but we want quality and good customer service where we do...
