I had lunch at Wayback today, 12/29/2023. I like Wayback and will eat there again but I am not happy about my visit today. I had to repeat my order 4 times while also refusing 4 attempts to upsell me. There was no-one in line behind me at the time. There was no reason for the cashier to be in a hurry. I had to tell the cashier that she was making this too hard: “I want a Classic, single, mayo and onion only, regular Tots, and a Lemonade”. She rang it up and then asked me to select how big a tip I wanted to leave. At this point, I had received annoyance, but no service. So, no tip. It was 12:10 PM when I walked in, the receipt says 12:19 PM There were only two people working behind the counter and it took 15 minutes for my food to come out. I was happy with the food, but I think 15 minutes is too long to wait for a burger and tatter tots. If I had left an 18% tip, could I have asked to get it back? Why should anyone ever tip before receiving service? There are no waitresses or waiters working for tips at Wayback. They get paid by the hour. Does the management have access to the tip money? Does the cook get more than the cashier? Does 100% of the tips go to the workers actually working at the time the tip was made? What happens to the tip money? You should eat at Wayback but don't leave a tip. Wayback should pay their employees a fair wage and stop hassling the customers.
I had lunch at Wayback in Titusville today, 11/20/2018. Overall, I was pretty happy. I got there at about 12:40 PM. I was greeted at the door by an employee and again when I ordered. The cashier asked for my order (a Classic, with mayo and onion only) and offered me a choice of about five kinds of cheese (cheddar for me). With a small tea, this came to 9 bucks after taxes. A few minutes later, someone brought my burger to my table. The Classic is a double meat, double cheese burger. The patties appeared to be about a quarter pound each, cooked on a flat top grill. The burger came to me too hot to eat and very juicy. It was really good. At first I thought this was a bit pricey but really, the burger was bigger and better than a Whopper and only cost a bit more. Two bucks for an all-you-can-drink ice tea or lemonade or soft drink is pretty standard too. There is a lot more than burgers on Wayback’s menu but I have only had the Classic. There are napkin dispensers on each table along with ketchup and salt/pepper shakers. Mustard squeeze bottles are also available. So: good service, good food, fair prices, in and out in twenty minutes, left full and happy. For some reason this restaurant gets mixed reviews, I had a bad visit a couple of months ago myself (see below) . But you should try Wayback if you’re in Titusville and want a big juicy burger. I’m glad I gave them a second chance.
Just went to Wayback Burgers F178 in Titusville FL., ticket #180232546. I’ll cut to the chase: I left angry and hungry. At no time did any employee greet me, smile, or say please or thank you. 9/28/2018 at 12:09 PM, the restaurant was 1/3 full and there was no line, all employees had their backs to the dining area. I had to wait several minutes before someone came to the register and stared at me. I finally took the initiative and said “I’d like a Classic, mayo and onion only.” The person at the register asked me to repeat my order so I said “I’d like a Classic, mayo and onion only, no ketchup, no mustard, no tomato, no lettuce, no pickle. Mayo and onion only. And a small Ice Tea” This cost, before taxes, $8.49. Nine minutes and 50 seconds later, I got a Classic with ketchup, mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion. When I took it back, I got blank stares and confusion. I asked for a refund for the burger (I’d drank half the tea while I waited) and left mad and hungry. There are plenty of other places to get a...

Glancing down once again in disbelief, I double-checked the name of my next location as it appeared on my random place generator. Yep. It said, “Wayback Burgers.” I scratched my head in wonderment. I had no idea that Mr. Peabody and Sherman had started a burger chain, but here we are. While they actually have nothing to do with that beloved cartoon of my youth, they have been around since my youth with beginnings in 1991. From a modest start to an international chain in about 20 years is some success story, so I figured they can't be all that bad.
As I entered the place, I was greeted with a warm welcome and we picked a table. Trey was working the front of the house, the back of the house, the side of the house, underneath the house and was a tad stressed as he is alone. I guess that worker shortage is real. Trey was perhaps a bit out of sorts, but he held himself together with professionalism and soldiered through. For a fast-food type of place, their menu wasn't anything to write home about, but I didn't find it lacking either. From burgers to sandwiches and chicken along with hot dogs and self-proclaimed hand-dipped milkshakes and salads for the rabbit crowd, I was sure they had everyone covered.
I asked Trey for one Rodeo Burger (medium rare) and Cheeeesy (their spelling, not mine) Burger, also medium-rare. As Trey retreated to the back of the house to prepare my order, I was left with some “mulling time.” As I was pontificating on the employment shortage and about to solve it for everybody, Trey returned with my order. Maybe next time I will solve the myriad of problems facing our country, right now, though, it's time to get my grub on.
As you can see from the pictures, Trey certainly executed the order with aplomb and a certain amount of panache. Everything looked immensely scarf-worthy. First up on the Big Boy's discerning method of delivery was the Rodeo Burger. This is a two-patty beast of Texas delight, oozing with a tangy BBQ sauce and blanketed with two slices of melted cheddar cheese topped off with what I can only describe as crispy rings on oniony goodness (their signature onion rings). One bite and my choppers immediately went into a line dance of tangy choreography. The combination of flavors was a true delight on the palate. The sauce had just the right amount of tanginess to remind one it was BBQ, but not enough heat to bury the tastiness of the beef, onion and cheese.
Moving on to the Cheeeesy burger, I was expecting this to be meh. I mean, honestly, it's a cheeseburger. How different can it be from the thousands of others I have shoved in my pie whole over the decades? Well, quite actually. With four slices of pasteurized American Cheese product melted amongst two all-beef, hand-formed burgers served on a buttered inverted bun this was by far one of the coolest Cheese anything I have had in a very long time. I found the inverted bun added a newness to it that was delightful.
The Big Boy says, “Fast food or not, this place has the...

This place is great! I'm so glad it made its way to titusville! If you have read some of the bad reviews please read this review. Wayback is a, fast food, made to order burger joint. Their burgers are seasoned well, juicy but not overly salted. I could eat the bread by itself too because it just tastes good. They are juicy burgers that actually have a good beefy flavor even without ketchup and pepper. They are better than the Mcdonalds, Burger King, Wendy's etc. The onion rings are light and seasoned well and pair with everything (I dont even like onion rings that much). The fries like everything else have a nice flavor without over seasoning.
The service is great and the people have been very attentive and helpful. Some reviews have had complaints about wait times and restaurant size. Here are my thoughts.
I attended the grand opening and yes it was crowded and there was a wait. I also have a five and two year old who were there with me, so I understand the uncomforts of standing in line. I understood when I walked up to the line with my wife and kids what I was getting into. Unfortunately grand openings can be rough. People are not nice and the volume of orders is overwhelming. Chefs who have years of experience run into situations like this. There is always room for improvement but these guys at Wayback are on the right track!
The inside structure itself feels a bit small for the ordering section. This could be a headache for both customer and employee in the future. I have eaten outside every time I've gone because of this. Thank God the weather has been nice. The dining area is nice too, but it just seems a little space management could be addressed. Considering the mall this is located at is growing exponentially and the movie theater is a few feet away, the crowds may never die down. The challenge of great service, food, ambience and hi traffic will be a challenge, I feel Way back will overcome. Remember this isn't French cuisine in Paris, it is a made to order burger joint and at the time of this writing still within its first few weeks. The food is good and the people are friendly. I will continue going myself but more importantly my kids and WIFE love it!
Update* 10-27-2018 After 10 months and many visits I do have a bit more perspective and here are my thoughts. The food is good but the service is not great. It seems like the staff is unhappy to be there and it translates into how they interact with you the customer. I just ate there as of this update and everything we got was really good but the same vibe of - this is not where I want to be - was still quite noticeable. I will say it wasn't horrible today and I appreciate the staff that helped us however it was still a very dry energy. I do still recommend Wayback Burger as a cool burger place with tasty food, but the service, in my humble opinion, needs...
