The food is really between 3 and 4 stars. The problem is that it's inconsistent with how good it is based on this experience and partially way overpriced. Breakdown: Apps tried: loaded potato skins, we ate them, though they're boring and nothing special. Fried green tomatoes: excellent and highly recommended! Food ordered: Beef stroganoff was enjoyable and is recommended, downside, $1 for bread to be added, the bread added was a single slice of baguette, dry and toasted. Sirloin: Taste was fine, it was undercooked, blue rare when medium rare was ordered. Seems like a technical issue with the meat as the outside was properly cooked, yet inside raw (usually means pulled straight from the fridge vs resting at room temp for a short time before cooking). Fried Green BLT: a mixed review sandwich in itself. The taste delicious, of course. One side is dry as there's a glup of the pimento cheese on one side, while the other side of bread has nothing on it and the pimento cheese needed to be spread as it was a glup in one spot. Sides: Brussel sprouts, not as expected, but not bad if you like brussel sprouts, you'll like them. Boiled whole versus fried or roasted and glazed. Mixed feelings on them. I enjoyed them the most from the group, but am not crazy for them and tend to eat food because it's what was ordered. Just know not to get them again. The carrots are superior to their brussel sprouts, and I recommend them, they're delicious! Desserts: Really good creme brulee! Tiramisu is pretty average, nothing special, but is good. Not sure I'd classify it as tiramosu as it's mostly just cream (doesn't have taste and texture of mascarpone), no taste of espresso or cocoa. Not bad for what it is, just not tiramisu in my mind. Piña colada cake: the cake itself is great, and the frosting is way too sweet. Service: Not bad, and definitely nothing special given how slow the restaurant was (we were one of 3-4 seated tables during our entire stay). Would I return? For certain items, though given the prices, it'll...
Read moreVery nice atmosphere and great service. The brisket tacos did not live up to their appearance. The meat was overcooked and crunchy and there was not much flavor. The search for Cilantro came up with only a couple of tiny pieces. And the barbecue sauce was lacking. The pasta alfredo was a bit on the bland side as well, but maybe that's just my taste and everyone else will love it. Usually I have this dish in an Italian restaurant and it has some additional flavoring. I've also had the Cajun version of this which can be very nice. Adding pepper didn't didn't change it because the pepper seemed weak. The portion sizes were quite good and we came away full. The tater tots were especially good. Another thing that I really appreciated was that the water glasses were not tiny. Sometimes when you order water in a restaurant they bring it in small glasses and you run out.
I would really like to see this restaurant succeed and from reading the other reviews I'm sure that they will do just fine without my suggestions. But here they come anyway. Just a couple of my amateur suggestions: get pepper mills so that the pepper is fresh cracked. Maybe supply the tacos with some barbecue sauce on the side so that people can add to their taste. Same with cilantro because I know some people hate it but we love it. As far as the pasta alfredo, it would be awesome to also offer a version that has some Cajun flavoring maybe with peppers and andouille sausage as an option in addition to the chicken and shrimp? So that's my honest. Two cents. Just...
Read moreWith old brick walls that add a historic atmosphere. The menu has a nice selection of foods that would interest many different folks. The burata cheese app is wonderful and is fresh and flavorful. The poppers had a great texture and the flavor of the fig sauce was quite good. The manager did also share a red pepper jelly that was excellent. Our son had spaghetti and meatballs, and found it strange that it came out with ziti and not spaghetti. The marinara had a cayenne spice which was not listed in the menu, which was too spicy, especially if not referenced in the menu. My wife had the beef stroganoff which was good. I had a filet that was cooked nicely, the texture was good and flavor was slightly above average, it was a bit dry. So overall, it was an average filet. The baked potato was not cooked enough. The service was above average but the meal was rushed. Apps came out, salads came out quickly after that, and meals were out 10 minutes after that. Way to fast, way too many plates on the table. This is a lack of attention to detail. Not sure if the speed of the food is related more to the kitchen staff or the server, but someone needs to take a breath and allow people to enjoy the food. Overall, an above average place locally, but think with a few small changes, could be a...
