The other day was National Pi Day and I was busy plotting a day of sweet and savory pie. Upon research, I found Schmucker’s. I ask my Dad, who’s been living in Toledo all his life, if he’s been there. And of course he has! He goes on to tell me that he has had many of great meals there. I told him it was National Pi Day and ask what he thought about the pies. He nods and says, “Yes, their pies are great!” He also tells me that the pies were homemade right there in the restaurant. Cool! His favorite is the Coconut Cream Pie. Noted.... So I go on with my day and just so happen to be down the street from Schucker’s. I decided to go pick up a slice of pie for my awesome dad and one for myself. I pull up to the cutest retro diner. I walk in and it has a very retro feel inside as well. So cute! It’s pretty crowded, but people don’t seem to mind. There were a few tables in the middle of the diner and some booths along one wall. On the other side was seating at a long lunch counter. Behind the counter was the cooking area and the PIE! Above the pie was a crazy list of pies that were available. Over 20 pies! The take-out line was pretty long, so I had time to decide which one I wanted. This place was busy! I noticed several boxes of whole pies being ordered and walking out of the door. The line never let up. People definitely love this place and certainly feel that the food is worth the wait. I couldn’t wait to experience what everyone apparently already knows. I ordered a slice of Coconut Cream Pie for my Dad and Key Lime Pie for myself. When I got home, I presented to pie to my Dad. I got a huge smile and a hug! I took my Key Lime Pie out and took a bite. Mmmmmmmm. I should have bought a whole pie!!! So what I loved about the pie was that it wasn’t overwhelming sweet, the Key Lime flavor was there, and the crust was tasty. I loved this whole pie situation! Later that day I tasted my dad’s Coconut Pie and it too was delicious. I will definitely be returning to Schmucker’s to try the rest of the pies. Next time I’ll also sit and have a meal.

Loved loved loved eating here! The establishment had such an old time feeling, classic, and homey. My niece and I arrived at the wrong time... lunch time. They were busy! But we were able to sit at the counter where we sat right in front of the commercial stove and the cook. I got to see that Schmuckers does use fresh ingredients: hamburger patties that are not frozen, hand patted; fresh cut fries (potatoes); fresh eggs; homemade pies! We just had to take some slices home with us since we were so stuffed after our meal. I had a meatloaf plate with brown gravy and mashed potatoes... yes, they were NOT out of a box. You could actually feel some small chunky pieces. My niece had scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns and biscuits and gravy. It was all so delicious. I regret not going back to eat one of their handburgers, had I not be running out of time and also being that I am from out of town (TX). The only thing that I would have changed about the burger ( I watched them make a few while I was there) is that I would have asked them to toast my buns. All-in-all, I would so go back. For now I have to wait to eat there until maybe next year on my next vacation/visit to my brother's. But I am for sure heading in that direction. Oh! I almost forgot... my niece and I both loved the establishment, the food and it's employees. Everyone was very friendly and super outgoing.

Was doing a little Google research about Ohio's best restaurants and stumbled across Schmucker's. Was going to a Bengals game and decided to make a detour on the way down from Canada. Shmucker's is everything I expected and more. Amazing retro diner atmosphere that is authentic and original. Almost like walking back in time. It was packed when we arrived just after 1pm but we were able to get a seat at the bar which would have been my choice anyway. They have old school stools that really makes you feel the diner experience. I ordered a hot dog and a burger with chips. The g.f. ordered the burger with fries. Everything was amazing, great dinner homestyle smash burger which paired perfectly with the hot dog. Had a few of the g.f.'s fries. They were fresh cut and delicious. Best part about the meal was the pie (which is what they are famous for). I ordered the Buckeye pie which was amazing. Great crust, custard and cream topping plus the Buckeyes finishing it off. Had a bit of the g.f.'s banana cream pie and it was great too. Almost ordered a second slice. Can wait to head back sometime just wish it wasn't 5 hours away from Canada.

My husband and I are an interracial couple. I am black and he is white. Upon arrival, we stood up for over 5 minutes without being addressed. I was tired and sat at the counter until we could get a table. Once, I walked away, the server immediately walked up to address my husband without me. My husband stated, we are a "party of two" which the server started to clean a table for us to sit. While we watched the server clean the table a server behind the counter told me to have seat at that table. The table was still not clean and I stated, "I prefer not to sit at a dirty table and I'll wait until she finishes cleaning." The server just walked away. My husband and I notice everyone who came in after was greeted before they could even open the door. The place was more crowded at that time compared to when my husband and I were standing there together. My husband and I order breakfast, and my plate came with a free coffee or tea. I requested coffee, and the waitress asked if I wanted french vanilla or regular creamer with my coffee. I asked for regular creamer and sugar. The waitress wrote it down. When the waitress came back she gave my husband his food first, without making effort to inform me about the arrival of my plate, and I had to wait. She bought my food and the coffee never came. I continued to eat and drink my water. When she came back I asked if I can get the coffee to go because it never came. The waitress stated, "You didn't order a coffee." I said, "Yes, I did." She looked back in her notes and said, "Well, what creamer do you want?" I said, " regular creamer and may I have a to go box." She bought my coffee in a to go cup with no to go box or creamer and I had to wait about 5 more minutes for creamer. When she bought the creamer, I asked for the to go box again, and she gave it to me. The service was very poor, and disrespectful towards me. We do believe we were mistreated due to being an interracial couple with most of the mistreatment targeted at me. We will not be coming back after a year of coming here to get pie to go. My husband was very disappointed, because he had come here before, at just as busy of times. His words, "At least the food was decent, but due to the way they treated my wife, I will...

Im not sure what the hype is about this place from some people.. but I'm totally not impressed.. first of all there food was OK.. I've had way better at fast food spots.. their pies were good no doubt.. but everything else we ordered was not seasoned and tasted bland.. then after I ate their signature double cheeseburger .. my bowls went crazy.. something they had in that sandwich was bad for sure.. I dealt with stomach pains and bad bowls for 4 days.. but the atmosphere was HORRIBLE.. they stay pretty busy but they don't spend any of the money they are making on improving their building.. walls .. ceilings.. chairs.. booths.. floors.. everything was dingy.. dirty.. the waitresses threw the crumbs while cleaning a table right on the floor.. like that's normal and you look through the whole place.. it's just nasty.. my daughters did not want to sit there and eat.. they wanted to leave.. but I wanted to at least give them the opportunity to try them.. my younger daughter refused to sit in one of their chairs.. she said it looked nasty.. so considering how unclean and no desire to keep up the place.. it makes me think of how many other factors are overlooked and not considered when cooking our food.. our waitress seemed annoyed that we didn't know what we wanted..I told her it was our first time there and we maybe asked to many questions.. but it was a to go order.. so she wasn't expecting a tip so she may not wanted to waste her time with us I guess.. but overall.. it was not a good experience.. I honestly don't recommend it..i really liked their pies.. but after getting sick.. and thinking about how overlooked basic up keep and maintaining the restaurant image was.. I can only think of what I'm not seeing when they are cooking anything in putting in my body.. sorry this was harsh.. but you have to care enough about your customers to keep your place clean.. fixed up.. and updated.. don't be cheap.. and invest in to your customers that support you.. speaking from a business...
