Saw this place and randomly decided to give it at try, went in placed my to-go order and when I went to pay with cash, the cashier told me they donāt give change, which I thought was strange⦠I have had experience with ācashlessā restaurants, but not a restaurant that will take cash and not give change back. My order was almost $14 I only had 20ās so I used Apple Pay. The cashier was friendly but she kept saying how much tipping is appreciated, 3 times bro. It was awkward- like they were desperate for tips. I felt bad, these businesses need to pay employees properly. And trust me this place has money. The restaurant is nicely decorated, cool ambiance and the food packaging⦠Itās pretty fancy for a chicken spot, but all that is not necessary to sell a good chicken sandwich. They could cut back on supply cost alone and just pay their employees so they wonāt have to beg for customers for tips. My food was decent and served quickly, it was however a little too sweet for my taste (esp the sugary French fries). Thereās plenty other trending hot chicken places with better food. I have literally tried almost every spot in Houston area. My top 3 Lea Jane , Micos, Daveās. They all focus on the FOOD and none of them have fancy packaging or fancy restaurant decor- just damn good chicken AND Iāve never felt pressured to tip or been told they donāt give change.
I do not support the normalization of tipping fast food cashiers. I have no problem with tipping ppl for going above and beyond, or tipping my waiter, or bartender. Even at Lubys I leave a tip for the busser - but I am not into tipping someone for standing at a counter and taking my order, thatās literally your only job- why are ppl tipping you??? Owners need to pay employees and stop placing that burden on the customers. Next thing you know we will be pressured to tip grocery store cashiers.
Overall, I genuinely felt the cashier was lying to me when she said she could not give me change. She just wanted a big tip. And when she kept mentioning tips it further confirmed what I was feeling. Making the whole experience uncomfortable. I definitely...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is our first time eating at this restaurant. We ordered the fusion fries and the tenders and waffle. I'm a bit of a spicy wimp - I love spices and flavor, but don't like things too hot that I start sweating. Not knowing how spicy things would be at this particular restaurant, my husbandand I opted for no spice on the fusion fries chicken and then tried the honey butter and mild flavors for the tenders with the waffle.
Overall, all of the chicken was well cooked and juicy, but that's where the positives end.
The breading on all of the chicken was only so so. The honey butter didn't taste like honey or butter, just plain. The mild had no flavor or spiciness to it at all - literally the house sauce had more of a spicy flavor (not hot, but could still taste seasoning/mild spiciness). The mild having no flavor was surprising given it is advertised as having around 10K scoville units which would be much spicier than a jalapeno. Weird. Honestly just looked and tasted like it was dusted red with paprika and had about the same spiciness.
The fusion fries were actually awful. I honestly tend to like most everything to eat and almost never write a negative review. I have no idea what this was that I ate. This had the flavor and texture honestly of sickly sweet/vomit. I nor my husband could even finish this dish even though we were still hungry. I couldn't even stomach to smell or taste more bites as I thought eating more would make me throw up. Nauseating smell and taste... I don't know how this was so bad because I love all the individual toppings it is advertised to have on it (beans, corn, mango, cheese, etc).
Really disappointed on many levels and not sure we'll be back to try again. Very strange to have so many positive reviews when this was just an awful...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAlways a big fan of hot chicken since I went to Nashville 5 years ago (Hattie B's anyone), so will travel for some good, spicy chicken.
Located in Louetta (Longtime Houston resident and I had to google it), it's in a nice new Plaza with plenty of other shops and restaurants. Oozes modern. Clean and fun. Parking up front is a bit limited, but more in the back. Very easy to spot once you're there.
First off, service is great and on-point. Some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. The space is fairly large inside with plenty of tables, and some outdoor seating if that's your thing. The interior is immaculately clean, more so than a fast casual place typically is (especially since it's brand new). It was about half busy when we went but orders were coming and going rapidly.
Got a chicken and waffle plate as well as the loaded fries. Got spicy (equivalent to habanero) and a mild. Now, I eat spicy (e.g. pluckers fire in the hole), and the best thing about this place is they give you the relative spice ranking. So no more guessing, pick your number and go with it. The spicy had a nice kick, it builds up over time but easily handled. The next 2 levels will probably kill most normal people.
The chicken itself is juicy, and the sauce is amazing. Full of flavor and calories, but exactly what you need in a hot chicken. The fries were meaty and crispy, compliments the chicken perfectly. And the waffle is the perfect desert, don't even need the syrup for it.
The loaded fries is similar except chopped with slaw. Would probably stick with the tenders and fries instead of mixing them all together but they're both good.
And the homemade lemonade is great as well....
