I have never once written a review for anyone before now, but here I am. Pecos has been one of my family’s go to places, we’ve had rehearsal dinners here and my parents love taking people there. Which is a huge deal - my parents rarely go out to eat as it is. So, because of how highly my mom speaks of this restaurant, we thought it would be perfect to reserve their private room for her 50th birthday party. What a grave mistake that was.
I spoke with them 4 separate times about this reservation, once to book, once to increase the guest count 3 weeks out. They then called me to confirm the Monday before, and I called them the morning of the reservation.
I am getting ready to walk out the door to commute an hour to Pecos to set up when I get a call. Not from Hannah (who deals with reservations), not the owner, their host that I have never spoken with before. To tell me 2 hours before our reservation that the owner double booked the room, they’re kicking us out of the private room, and are putting us in the dining room. This poor guy on the phone had no idea how to handle this situation and I tried my best to not lose it on him because I knew it wasn’t his fault. I got off the phone with him and frantically started calling around other restaurants in the area to try and book their private room for 30+ people on a Saturday night (on Father’s Day weekend) and only 2 hours before everyone was planning to arrive. Thankfully, we were able to find another place that was more than accommodating.
I am deeply disappointed in this place. My mom has had nothing but positive things to say about this place, even after their owner had messed up part of my brother’s rehearsal dinner she had there. She brags about this restaurant all the time, and when it comes to her birthday, the owner couldn’t care less about his guests or their loyalty. He just kicks people out because he either wasn’t paying attention, or needed a room for his friends - who knows. And then not only does he absolutely screw over his guests, he doesn’t even have the decency to make the call to me to admit his mistake. He has his employee that had NOTHING to do with this try apologizing. I worked in the restaurant industry for years, I know mistakes happen, but if you make a mistake that badly - you call the person to apologize and make it right.
We will never give another dime to this place and we want everyone to know their owner does not care about any one...
Read moreWe were able to call ahead and get on the waiting list, so we had a very short wait. We could have waited a little bit longer if that would have meant that our table and menus would have been clean, there was quite a bit of salt and pepper on the edge of the table next to the wall and there was a piece of baked potato & a chive on my menu. The menus over all were worn and the plastic holders/protectors were cracking and yellowed. We ordered water while we were looking over the menu & we were ready to order when our server returned with our water. I ordered the 8oz sirloin (medium) with a shrimp sauce, asparagus & a house salad with bleu cheese dressing. I also asked for a Love Bug cocktail to try. My husband ordered the filet (medium) with mushroom sauce, rice & corn. I received my salad w/dressing on the side. The tomato that was with it was too mealy for me, but the rest of the salad was crisp and fresh, the dressing was not as cheesy as I would have liked, but it was a good salad. I had not yet received my drink by the time our server had cleared my dishes, so I had to remind him about it, which he brought right away from the bar. Our steaks came out and they smelled great and looked perfect. Cooked just the way I like it, and the shrimp sauce was a great addition. The asparagus were good too, but the meat was the star. I had to steal some of my husband's rice to finish my sauce because we didn't ask for rolls, which was fine because if we would have had the rolls, we wouldn't have had room for our dessert. The dessert menu that we were brought had definitely seen better days, but Pineapple Upside-Down cake is my favorite dessert & Pecos Grill did not disappoint. It was hot out of the oven and the perfect size to share. The hubby enjoyed the vanilla ice cream with his bites of cake. Thanks for making our anniversary dinner one to remember. I took one star off because of the dirty table, & menus;...
Read moreOur second visit was polar opposite to our first. 1-17-20 Saturday night and not busy with plenty of open tables. They piled all the guests into the back of the restaurant. Prime rib was supposed to be medium rare. It was medium well and tough as a boot. Our salad didn't have homemade croutons and she explained they ran out and we're making more, we never got them. Prime rib flavorless and cold. The baked potato was overcooked and dry also. Our waitress was waiting on the party room tables attentively and pretty much forgot us. She did come by and ask how everything was, and we said not to good but didn't press the issue. She came by after another 20 minutes of waiting and we asked for a dessert menu. Next time she came it was with the check. No dessert for us and by then, we were ready to just leave. I noticed the table next to us also ordered prime rib. I asked how there's was, same as ours. Tough and no flavor. We called the manager after explaining to whoever answers the phone that we didn't need to tell her who was calling, just needed to let the manager know. Chris (the manager) acted like he really didn't care. Just said sometimes you get tough steaks, you should have told me. Well, hard to tell you anything if you're not in the dining area. We said we won't be back and will write a review. He said sorry you feel that way...click
