Bakin Bagels — Restaurant in Toms River

Honestly I would give negative stars if it was possible. Please listen to these horrible reviews and do NOT go here. I called in a order for two bagel sandwiches, nothing complicated at all. 30 minutes after ordering over the phone we went to pick it up and they told us we must have called the wrong store because they didn’t have our order. After showing them our call history and it was the correct number/location, they said they would rush the order and it would be out right away. We ended up waiting an additional 30 minutes at least and our food still wasn’t ready. They kept saying “two more minutes it’s almost done” lmfaoooo it should have been done an hour+ ago when we called originally. That’s not even the worst part. The young guy at the counter was drenched in sweat, lifted his entire shirt up and wiped sweat off of his neck and face and then proceeded to touch bagels with his bare hands. No gloves in sight being worn by any of the staff. So unsanitary and absolutely disgusting. Someone is going to end up getting seriously ill from this place and it’s honestly so concerning that they are still in business. We ended up just walking out without our food because it wasn’t worth possibly getting violently sick from the nasty conditions. No one there knew what was going on and they kept messing up every single order....

We ordered 5 sandwiches on the phone, checked the bag and only got 4 (which was partially our fault since we didn’t ask them to reread the order back after it was placed, although that should have been done anyway on their end) so we asked for them to make the other one. They very rudely asked which sandwich we were missing and we said we weren’t sure since the sandwiches weren’t labeled. One staff member then replied “yeah we don’t do that, you have to ask for them labeled.” Deli 101 from people who own several deli’s and have for the past 22 years — if you order more than one sandwich and they are different, you label them without the customer needing to request it. Once they checked our order and read it back to us (which was all correct on the slip) we left and went home. When we got home, 2 of the sandwiches were missing eggs and the slip had eggs written down for those sandwiches. If you are going to charge nearly $11 for a sandwich, that sandwich better be correct. The service was disappointing, the staff was rude and the prices were too expensive to be messing orders up. Oh, and make sure you bring tip money so that you can “tip if you think...

My husband and I went in for a quick bite since there was nothing else open. The roach crawling on the wall behind the bagels should have been enough to make us walk out. The place looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in ages, dusk everywhere even on the bags of chips they’re selling which have probably been sitting there a while. The bag of chips I got expired the day I was eating them and my husbands was covered in dusk and dirt. If you’re hungry and this is the only place open take a drive or a walk to seaside or Lavallette, a lot better options there. Such a shame, didn’t realize bakin bagels was a franchise, saw a few others in the island. This one makes me not want to try any of them. The food didn’t taste bad but was hard to eat while thinking of the roach behind the bagels, the workers being drenched in sweat, the fact that they don’t wear gloves while preparing your food and the fact that they’re probably cleaning the sweat from their faces and going to touch your food right after.
