Update to my original review. I had to knock it down from 5 stars because of the service we received the third time we went for breakfast. So, we walk in and stand there waiting for someone to approach us like previously, or is customary at any restaurant. The hostess literally left us standing in the doorway for an uncomfortable amount of time, staring at us but not bothering to approach us orosay anything right away. Finally, she asked if we wanted a table. Why else would we be standing at the restaurant entrance? I told her " yes, that's why we are standing here." And then I watched as she didn't send a server over until several minutes, after we had been seated. The two previous times we were attended to immediately, with the same volume of customers. They really should replace the hostess. The host/hostess marks the first and last impression of a place. Also, my toast came out burnt, and my children's chocolate chip pancakes barely had any chocolate chips, and no powdered sugar like the last times we ordered them. The server we had this time wasn't attentive, only coming to the table once to ask us if we needed anything else before bringing the check, even though the crowd thinned out during our meal. Very disappoining in comparison to our last occasions. Probably won't come back :( Original review: The servers are friendly and attentive, nice sized portions, good breakfast fair, lots to choose from, not too pricey for a resort area, for as busy as they get, you get your order quickly. The hostess/girl who handles the check definitely does not have the personality for customer service, but otherwise a great little spot for a good, quick breakfast before you...
Read moreThe place and food is fine. Price is not bad. But the service was some of the worst treatment I have ever endured. Kira the manager was our server. At first she was nice but when our food came out two of the plates we ordered were missing. We repeatedly asked for the two plates to come out while the others were eating but she kept forgetting. Over an hour went by without the food and she never apologized once. She only laughed at us. Very rude. Once we finally got the food after being there for almost an hour and a half we asked her if we could take it off the bill as our entire day had been delayed and she did not seem to have any remorse. She did not want to take it off the bill but it we had to argue with her until she complied. There were other little things like one of our people had to eat their meal with a spoon because after asking for a fork she never returned with one. I am normally not the type to write a review but her attitude was so disrespectful. She was never understanding and we will not be returning to this establishment because of...
Read moreWe made an excellent choice heading right down the road to Ortley Beach for Mother’s Day breakfast at Sunny Hunny by the Sea Family Pancake House and Restaurant. (I couldn’t resist the name)
Sunny Hunny originally opened in the 1960s and is a women lead business in New Jersey. The restaurant has been in the family of the owner for 35 years - and they have plenty of stories to share from over the years…one in particular being their story of enduring the effects from Hurricane Sandy. In the words of the family:
“This one story structure, located one block from the beach on 6th ave in Ortley (Right down the street from the former location of the surf club) was able to withstand the power of Sandy with only minimal water damage, in relation to the surrounding area. It was a miracle that my Wife’s family was able to continue operating and survived the years following, even with the hit that tourism took.”
Now, owners Donjae and Christopher and their family carry on the family legacy at Sunny Hunny and look forward to serving Ocean County for many...
