El Ranchito Mexican Restaurant and Marisqueria — Restaurant in Topeka

I live 35 miles south of Topeka decided to try this spot for the first time Guess what? Terrible lol. That’s what I get for trying a new spot. I picked up my order got home and saw the Male bartender left out my tortillas for the chicken fajitas and my large cheese which is costly. How am I suppose to eat my chips with out my cheese dip and chicken fajitas with the tortillas? I called the restaurant that night explained I lived out of town and the male bartender said he would leave a note for the manager and I could come in for a refund they just need the physical card. I come in two days later since I live out of town Guess what? The female manager said she couldn’t give me a refund since I didn’t come in yesterday No one told me I had to drive in from out of town the next day. She gave me a gift card for $20.00 instead of refunding the $37.00 of food I didn’t receive. You can say I was ripped off by $17.00 plus tax. Came in for lunch with a small group of friends. I had the Pollo Monterrey. Others had tacos, enchiladas, etc.

To start with, the chips and salsa did not impress me at all. The chips were different than any other I've ever had at a Mexican place, and not in a good way. They tasted a little stale, hard and over-cooked. The salsa was nothing special.

Main dish was okay. The chicken was a little on the salty side, but not terrible. Refried beans were typical. I wasn't fond of the rice. Somewhat flavorless and what flavor it did have wasn't that pleasant.

Others in my group said that the meat in the tacos and enchiladas was fairly bland and tasteless.

I will say that everything seemed to be made fresh. The service wasn't great, even though they weren't that busy. Prices were typical for a Mexican place of this type in the area.

I took my daughter to LUNCH and we both ordered shrimp fajitas from the lunch menu, price $10.99. Imagine our surprise when I got a bill for $79.57 (no drinks). Not only did they not charge us the lunch price, they charged us ea for a double. I was able to get it reduced to $42.07, but the gal at the front desk would not give me the lunch price because we did not specify lunch. In our opinion if there were two different ones they should have asked if we wanted the lunch menu item. We pointed out it was lunch time and she said a lot of people order off the regular menu so I'm giving you a heads up. They also charge a non-cash fee.
