Pretty decent drinks in store. Pretty awful experience buying whole bean. Staff was friendly but didn't seem that knowledgeable.
Feel free to stop here if you're not a huge coffee nerd(or you can't continue if you appreciate delusional rants).
Chapter 1: I came in for whole bean coffee. I usually enjoy lighter roasts, but they only had "medium-dark" to "medium" listed on the bags. And I know that what different people think of as being light, dark, etc is largely subjective. I though that maybe they were trying to avoid using the more extreme descriptors so people(especially those newer to coffee) might focus on the tasting notes rather than on the roast level. I asked for some insight from the two people working there. One was happy to help, but didn't seem all too knowledgeable. Relatively unperturbed at this point I decided to buy an origin that is typically lighter, and had tasting notes that seemed to signal that as well.
Chapter 2: Upon settling on that things only went down hill. The price was higher than it was listed as on the shelf(this is untrue see edit*). And the roast was very dark. An Ethiopian Yirgacheffe literally glistening with oil due to its roast level. Some additional smaller gripes that were just the cherry on top: no roast date on the bag, and the pull tab to open the bag was dysfunctional.
I don't blame the staff that was working there when I came in. Would have been nice if they knew bit more about the product(or were more forthcoming should they have known), but I don't see that as the main problem. And the coffee drinks you get in shop are still solid.
Edit: You should absolutely be embarrassed if this is how you take customer feedback. Calling my review "fake" as if I'm out to get you. I had a bad experience, who are you to police my experience? Maybe next time have a little class. I'll upload photos when I'm free to.
*I went back to double check the price. I made and honest mistake on that. There was one Ethiopian washed medium coffee in store, and only one on their website, each at a different price. To my surprise these were not the same coffee.
Regarding the rest of the review I stand by my comments. Oil on the surface is from the coffee oxidizing, while this can happen due to age, the primary reason is roast level. I'll let the photos speak for themselves. This coffee was purchased 7 days ago.
Also, I think the owner's response warrants going down from two stars to one. Maybe I'm just...

This place is still amazing and well worth the visit. I’ve been recently trying all their teas just so I can introduce myself to the different type of teas out there. The tea was amazing and super delicious. I recommend you try their oolong tea ,it was perfect. Just steeped to perfection.
Also, I witnessed the health department official come in and it was my first time seeing one in action. Boy was that man a HOLE something LOL. The tall female employee working there handled the bitter worker very well with professionalism. That really impressed me in how she was able to handle such a bitter bean with her sweet crema attitude, no bitterness 😀.
I will make sure to tip extra next time. You guys really deserve it!

This place has some of the freshest coffee in Torrance. Their single origin is amazing! Give them a huge try.
My only negatives are that the girls working there should get more training in terms of understanding the topic of coffee and having better communication skills. I asked one of them which bag of coffee they recommend and why, but to my surprise they were totally nervous and unable to answer coherently. If you’re unable to answer just be honest with me and say something such as...”sorry, I’m not too familiar with x,y and z, but I definitely recommend the Colombian if you’re a fan of light flavors.” Something like that.
However, this place is great. I’ll definitely...
Read moreA coworker told me about Newberry Coffee and Tea Company, so I absolutely needed to check it out! Newberry coffee and tea company is a small little coffee shop in a pretty large shopping center in Torrance. They offer a variety of drinks, coffee, and teas, which is something that I am very into right now.
I decided to go with the usual Thai iced tea with Boba. Since their shop is small, there’s not much seating available. But it wasn’t busy at the time, so I was able to sit and wait. The gentleman that was there was friendly and was quick, and efficient. Once my drink was ready, I shook it all up, mixing everything together and punched my straw in, and immediately took a gulp. It was so tasty! There was something different about the Thai iced tea, for it had an unusual taste. This is usually my go-to drink, so I’ve had Thai tea numerous times at other places, so their version tasted very unique. It tasted like it possibly had cinnamon. Nonetheless, it was terrific and different. I appreciate them making a twist to it.
I will definitely be coming back because I want to try their coffees and some of their other drinks. I look forward to trying other things from here. Thank you to my coworker who...
