As a certified chicken man I had to check this place out and now that all is said and done, I am pleased to see the old Moe's location has a respectable restaurant there now.
Ordered my meal online using the official website, which was simple and offered plenty of choices in how I wanted my chicken made. I went with a double slider meal which comes with fries, one tender being no-spice as a control of sorts and the other being the medium spice. I also went in for the large vanilla milkshake, as I was preparing myself that the spicier of the two tenders would turn out to be more than I could handle.
Now if you're worried about size, since they are called "sliders", which generally make me think of those tiny burgers you get from pubs and the like, but Dave's sliders are anything but small. Very much in-line with your traditional chicken sandwich size, requiring both hands to hold for consumption.
That said, how about that spice? Well as it turns out the spicier of the two tenders was the one I liked more. Now I'm just a wee spice mouse, can't really handle the stuff, or more to the point, my body can't, but at least going in the medium level was perfect for me. It was spicy enough to have a kick, but not too much that I was sweating or unable to eat the entire sandwich without some assistance from a drink. I got both of mine with the extra cheese option, and I think it does add a little more flavor to the bun when you've finished the chicken and are left with a couple of bites of bun and slaw and pickles left.
As for that milkshake, I got to admit, I was disappointed. It is 1 for 1 the McDonald's milkshake, push a button and goop comes out of machine. I was thinking they'd do a more traditional shake like Stewarts, but sadly that artificial milky flavor really brought my back to some unfortunate collage years of fast food for lunch and dinner every day. This is the only reason I'm not awarding full stars, but hey, if you like the shakes from the happy clown, then I'm sure you'll find Dave's shakes to be just as enjoyable.
Before I forget, the fries, they were en enjoyable crinkle cut variety, not common among fast food chains around here. They had a good seasoning, maybe a little too much salt, but they worked perfectly in mellowing out the medium spice when I felt it starting to reach critical back of throat levels.
All in all I spent around $30 for everything plus the tip of 15%, an agreeable price I think, but with only the chicken being the biggest attracting force for me, as it should be, I don't see myself making Dave's a routine stop on my way home. Good for a one off here and there maybe.
Overall, great tenders, better with spice added, milkshake was...
Read moreSad to see Moe's go which is much better than Chipotle, but decided to give this place a try since they are now in the same spot. The chicken was fantastic. Very juicy inside, the dry rub on the outside is amazing and full of flavor. You can choose your spice level and don't have to worry if you don't like hot. I choose medium as I don't like a ton of spice and it was fine, I could of probably kicked it up a notch or 2. My daughter choose Reaper as she can eat most grown men under the table who are spice aficionados. At first she said it was no problem, but could tell she was slowing down in her meal. But it was very flavorful and she dug right back into leftovers at home. The fries were nicely seasoned and crispy, the cheese sauce on the fries and chicken is a great add on, on top of their regular sauce and pickles. Another nice add was the Ice Tea machine.
From the looks they are signed up with DoorDash, PostMates, and GrubHub (which wasn't even aware the last 2 operated in this area) I would definitely go back again and getting hungry for Dave's Hot Chicken just writing this review. I would probably choose Dave's over PopEyes most times. PopEyes tends to be overpriced and while it's ok, its not great. So I would probably choose Dave's over most of the time going forward.
Only had 2 complaints. For the first, they try to bait you into the automatic iPad tip thing for just ringing you up and handing food across the counter like any other fast food joint. They aren't waiting on tables. The second was the wait time, which was a little long after ordering, but they did just open up so I'd chalk it up to the normal "getting into the flow of things" for a new franchise. Once we got the food though it was well...
Read moreThis was our first time at Dave's hot chicken. We were all very excited about the expierance and trying the food. That was all short lived. The cashier had 3 extremely large nasty hickeys on the front of her neck (very unprofessional and disturbing) the atmosphere was not comfortable if felt as it we were being stared at by employees and given side looks. The menu was horrible 10 tenders cost me 63.00$ and 2 fries (small portions) cost me 9.00$ thier was not any options to orders less tenders. I hate to complain about pricing of food because I eat out often and I don't mind paying for food if it was enjoyable. In this case not so much. I ate half of a chicken tender, the chicken was grizzly and had big chunks of cartilage. No seasoning. The breading taste burnt and extremely hard. I was very disappointed in the service and the quality of the food. When we felt uncomfortable dining in we asked the cashier if we were able to sit outside on the patio the cashier expressed that was okay we were not outside more than 4 minutes and were fighting off a school of bees. We then went back inside for the remainder of the visit to continue to be stared at and given side looks from the staff.... fun times! On a scale of 1-10 the food was horrible the staff were just as horrible the prices were unreasonable and the bee infestation is enough for me to grade this establishment a solid 1.. I would not recommend to anyone or be returning. Did I mention the secret sauce taste like honey mustard mixed with mayo and...
