My son made arrangements to have a set dinner menu for aprox. 30 people the night before his wedding. The food was just awful!!! My husband is a chef and a former teacher at CIA - we can be picky but this was a set menu and fairly simple - my son had dinner here and enjoyed it so we were looking forward to a nice night shared with friends and family. I was mortified. Appetizer was eggplant , two baked clams and fried calamari. Eggplant was sad looking and the clams were tasteless - fried calamari was just 'ok' - salad was fine - pasta dish was rigatoni with a red sauce - sauce was good - rigatoni was raw - it could not have been in the water for more than five minutes. I thought to myself - how in the world can you own an Italian restaurant and not know how to cook pasta??????? Entree's were tasteless - veal marsala was not veal it was pork (don't put it on the menu if your not going to serve the real thing) Cake was yummy and I suspect it was gotten from an outside source and not made in house. When it came time to pay the bill they were very fair - they only charged me for the people that attended and not the amount I anticipated (I think it was five less people than what I thought I would have) I paid the bill and didn't say anything about the food because I didn't want them to think I was trying to get $ taken off the check. After everything was paid she asked me how I liked it and I told her the truth - she tried to tell me the pasta was al'dente - no, it was not, thats how I like my pasta with a little bite to it - this pasta was RAW. Then she swore up and down it was veal and she could prove it (?) I was just disgusted with the entire experience and didn't want to make a scene so I told her don't worry about it and we left. I don't know if it was the large group that threw them off their game but whoever is in the kitchen is inexperienced or just does not care at all. Waitstaff was on top of things and they...
Read moreI don’t understand how people could leave 3 stars for a restaurant such as this with no explanation. We’ve been eating there for years now. The owner, Flora and her staff are friendly and super attentive. Ate there today for lunch/dinner and everything was delicious. Table bread was a dense oven warmed delicious semolina that was replenished without asking. You can’t go wrong with their soups as they’re always made in-house, full of fresh vegetables and tasty. We had the hot antipasto for 2 for the table. The fried calamari was the standout of the plate. Tender to the bite and not rubbery. Their dipping/marinara sauce is always good. You can’t beat their lunch special during the week. Soup, or house salad, a generous portion of food and a choice of 3 desserts included, gelato, Italian cheesecake or tiramisu. I had the lunch portion of eggplant parmigiana as the main dish, not bitter - fried well and enough of a serving to take half home. Decaffeinated cappuccino and tiramisu. It’s a small portion but just enough for me - reminder all of that except the cappuccino was only $15. I’m somewhat critical when eating Italian food because I was raised embracing my Italian heritage, Mom owned a restaurant herself years back, etc. Living in this neighborhood for over 20 years it’s nice to have a restaurant such as this so close by. Oh, and I’m pretty finicky regarding the cleanliness of restaurant bathrooms and theirs is...
Read moreI was invited to dinner at Goccia D’oro 2 where a live band was to be playing. Please bear in mind this my first visit and during Covid restrictions. The band was unable to play that evening but the management engaged a gentleman, Spiro to entertain instead. He provided excellent entertainment throughout our stay, popular songs with international flavor. The room was spacious and I'm sure it will be great for private parties in healthier times. Tables for dining were well spaced and the staff Covid protected at all times. Cuisine was Italian with a great selection of popular dishes. The kitchen will also a prepare plates to cater to restricted diets. The wine list was adequate and also carried some specialty mixed drinks. Serving started with crusty Italian bread and bruschetta, which could have been more crispy. There were a variety to entrees served at the table and we all agreed that they were delicious. I did note however, that they were all served on flat plates, when some pasta dishes would be more appropriate in bowls. Desert and coffee were worth a trip alone, a perfect end to an enjoyable meal, with subtle musical...
