First as we arrived a strange man (assumed to be the manager) was standing at the host desk and just stared at myself and my husband as we were waiting to be seated. To the point where my husband had to acknowledge him by saying hello. Thoughts are that was pretty creepy and if I were a manager I would be the one greeting the customer not starring until they felt awkward enough to say something. Next, since it was my birthday my husband called up ahead of time and asked for us to be sat in a booth NOT in the middle of the restaurant, let alone in front of the kitchen doors. Well that's exactly where we sat. My husband is 6ft 4in and we make these requests because normally otherwise it's cramped for him to enjoy his dinner. When I asked to be moved to the 2 top booth seating right behind us, I was told that was for a larger party. Well not more than 10 minutes after we sat, a party of 2 sat down where I asked to sit. Very rude especially since we called.
Within the 1st 15 minutes being at the restaurant we had our chips, fresh guac, drinks and apps! The server was then on top of us to order our mains. Like can I get a chance to taste the food first? Not having slow service is a priority but treating your clientele like cattle pushing in and out is also not ok.
Finally, for the cost of our dinner ($240 before tip), I would think that the service staff should be wrapping up our dinners for the to go's. Why am I managing this massive plate on the VERY narrow table while I have people bumping into my chair? Lastly, the bathrooms were disgusting and I even saw 2 staff members going into a solo bathroom together. Not a good look!
To justify these prices I do think the "service" part of it all could be improved. The ambiance gave more of a lower scale Besito vibe. Not really what I expected.
The decor is absolutely stunning and the food was FANTASTIC! So not one complaint there! The portions were large, cooked to perfection and sooooo flavorful!
With all that being said, I wouldn't necessarily recommend an "occasion" type dinner but a group heading out for a more casual vibe...

The food was outstanding across the board. The omelette and potatoes were excellent, the steak fajitas were cooked perfectly, and both French toast dishes were exceptional. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Mesita really surpassed my expectations for Mexican-style brunch. I’m very glad I gave it another try — this place absolutely deserves the recognition.
Mesita - Amityville: A Beautiful Space with Mixed Results
We recently visited Mesita in Amityville, eager to try out their take on Mexican cuisine. Walking in, the first thing you notice is how beautiful the space is — it’s stylish, vibrant, and sets the mood for what you’d hope would be a great night out.
Unfortunately, the experience was pretty uneven from there. We tried a variety of different dishes, and while some items were decent, others missed the mark. The tacos, for example, were very hit or miss. Some had good flavor, but others were overpowered by heavy sauces, a trend that seemed to affect almost everything we ordered. There was a tendency to over-sauce the food, masking the core flavors rather than enhancing them.
The atmosphere was insanely loud — to the point where having a conversation was difficult. It might be fun for a party vibe, but it’s not ideal if you're looking to enjoy your meal and actually talk to your tablemates.
Service also left something to be desired. Our server was polite but not particularly attentive, and it felt like we were an afterthought for much of the meal. To top it off, the bill was surprisingly high, even factoring in their happy hour specials. For the quality of food and overall experience, it didn’t feel like a good value.
Overall, I’m torn. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and clearly has potential, but the combination of middling food, high prices, loud environment, and lackluster service made it hard to fully enjoy. Maybe with a few tweaks, it could live up to the promise of its...
Read moreThis place is new and definitely a work in progress. The best thing about this restaurant is that they have an amazing staff that is very interested in making it an absolute success.
The restaurant has a great vibe with a rustic Mexican feel as well as a throwback in time feel. The music is good and at the right level, so you can actually have a conversation and hear each other. In addition, the cocktails are excellent.
Where this place misses is on the food. It is good enough, but really needs to get to the next level. The presentation was great, however the favors and textures missed.
The reason that I believe that Mesita will figure this out is because of of two very special people that my wife and I interacted with during our dining experience. Our server Laura and the Manager Gabby were truly outstanding. Their commitment to customer satisfaction was evident. In addition, their overall professional was truly wonderful. My wife and I shared our constructive criticism and they genuinely appreciated and welcomed our insights. As a matter of fact, Gabby took two drinks off the menu and insisted that we tried her favorite dessert....which was a home run. She understood that they were going through some growing pains, but encouraged us to come back again and give them another shot. There is no doubt that we will. In regards to Laura, she was attentive to our needs, made recommendations that she believed that we would enjoy, was passionate about her role, was definitely committed to the restaurant, was extremely personable and just an overall fantastic person. My wife and I look forward to coming back and seeing if they got to the next level. I believe...
