Went here for an iftar during Ramadan. The service was quick and painless and more importantly, the food was good and satisfied my hunger for the day. That being said, it was sorta a letdown. The reason being, I had heard tons of friends and family members sing praises that this is some sort of holy grail of halal fast food. Seriously some people wouldn’t shut up about it and I heard stuff like “it’s the best halal food in NY” and “it’s the gyro of your dreams”. Let’s be real- the food is good and on par with most halal fast food joints of today, however it’s not amazing by any means. If you’ve been to more than 5 halal restaurants in your life, you’d know what I mean. In Suffolk county it may be unique and special, but in Queens, Brooklyn & Nassau it’s just your average halal fast food place to grab a quick bite. Nothing more, nothing less. That’s not to degrade it and say it’s not good. Also, it’s mostly for takeout but they do have an ample amount of seating. It’s not super congested. Like 4-5 families of four can sit and eat at...
Read moreA awesome no frills Turkish / Mediterranean place that could easily charge more for their quality of food.
To start we had the haydari (yogurt dip) and diced spiced mix vegetables (dip like) with fresh hot bread. Very good!
Thoroughly enjoyed their kofta kebab and chicken kofta kebab. The chicken kebab has a bit more flavor as it seems it's spiced more than the beef kofta, also spicier in terms of heat as well.
I also tried my brother's Adana dish and it was fantastic! I normally do not like lamb but I would order this dish again. He also got the "meat pizza" and it was also very good as well.
Would recommend brown rice over the white rice. Both are good but I think the brown rice was better.
Drink selection was extensive and we had traditonal ayran (yogurt drink) and mango juice. Both great!
If your not sure whether or not to come here, rest assured you will not be disappointed. My brother has been trying to take me for awhile and I'm glad I finally went. Will be a weekly spot of...
Read moreI really love the food at nazar. Im always looking for Mediterranean food that's local to me and I came across this gem. Its Halal food, which means the meat is prepared according to Islamic law where the animal is not subjected to suffering before slaughtered. I ordered the chicken kebab which was ridiculously good. It came with white rice, a side salad, and a huge piece of house baked fresh bread all for $10!!!! I also had something called lamajune, I hope I spelled it correctly but its like a Turkish pizza topped with fresh vegetables with a super thin crust, also very good. They offered me some tea on the house which was a plus on such a cold night. It is also attached to their own butcher shop and grocery store, no wonder everything tasted so fresh! There is plenty of parking and easily accessible right on Deer Park Avenue. The crew behind the counter was very polite and happily answered all my questions regarding the food. I will definitely be back with...
