This is a diner, not a five star restaurant, so if you are looking for a gourmet meal with that "certain ambiance", move on, it's not for you! But . . . if you are looking for a GREAT Diner, The Olympic is hard to beat! As I live right down the road, I frequent this diner often, you can rely on getting a good meal and plenty of it! When I give my three Grandchildren a choice of where they want to go and eat, they almost always say, "The Diner By Your House"! The dinner specials are really good deal, as they come with a beverage, soup or salad, the main entree and dessert, all included! The main entree includes a starch and vegetable of your choice! The best part is that you can pick ANY dessert, (they have so much to choose from), and all baked on the premises! Most places that include dessert only give you a very small choice, like pudding, pie, or ice cream! My two favorite desserts are the rainbow cookie cake and the baklava! The portions are also large, I always bring a ton of food home with me, dessert included! I have never had trouble with the wait staff, but on a weekend they are very busy! Not all people or establishments are perfect, but I am quite sure that if you had a problem of any kind and spoke up about it, they would take care of it! It is a Landmark and the same people have owned it forever! That alone should speak for itself! They have now "bottled" their famous and delicious "House Italian Salad Dressing", for your purchase! It's a nice sized bottle that is...
Read moreWe have been coming to this diner for years and my family for years before that. This is one of the best diners in the area and one of the best that I’ve been to in Long Island. Several years back they renovated this location but kept all the old feel/taste. My favorite meal here is breakfast but the lunch & dinner are also good. No matter what meal you go for you will always come away happy and full. The portions are more than generous, always well prepared and the prices are super reasonable. My favorite is the French toast because they use fresh brioche bread which sucks up all the batter and makes such a soft & buttery toast. The home potatoes are also one of our favorites and they can make them extra crispy (crunchy but not burnt) which is so good. We also enjoy the various salads at lunch time, also very big portions but good. Service here is also pretty amazing. Always greeted with a warm smile and hello when we arrive. Usually there is no wait for seats but if there is the wait is usually not very long. Food comes out pretty fast and the waiters are always attending to you which is helpful. Most of the tables are set up for small groups (family of 4-6) but if you need a bigger area they can accommodate. As for the pastries, I’d say there is nothing overly amazing but they do everything well so you won’t be disappointed. One of the family favorites is the cheese cakes and milkshakes. Come support local businesses and come enjoy a hearty meal with your family and...
Read moreThere is just something about NY and NJ diners. They're iconic. Great food, great service with a menu that has everything under the sun. The Olympic diner fits into this iconic category. When we arrived it was fairly crowded, but the dinning room was immense and we were seated immediately. Service was spot on with a waitress coming by and giving us our menus in short order. Busboy also came by our table when we were first seated to provide water.
Once we place our orders they came quickly. My wife loves Eggs Benedict and she was not disappointed with this serving. It was perfect. Tasty with delicious home fries. My order was Two eggs scrambled, bacon, home fries and rye toast. Either they added an extra egg to the order or the eggs were jumbo sized. An enormous serving. No complaints here! Bacon was super crispy. Loved it. Home fries? Same as my wife's...tasty. Usually the toast that comes with the meal is no big deal, however this was different. Don't know who they get their rye bread from, but i hope they never change brand/vendor. Nice tasting rye bread. Service was good as well. Our waitress checked in on us to make sure everything was ok and we didn't have to flag her down for coffee refills. Nice Art Deco design to the diner. The ambience was a nice added feature that complimented the whole meal.
Good food, generous servings, good service, extensive menu and a nice dining atmosphere. The Olympic Diner...
