Sergi Coffee Roaster — Restaurant in Town of Babylon

Have been reading the reviews and they were all over the place— from very good to very bad, so I stopped in to satisfy my own curiosity. Easy on easy off of Sunrise Highway, so that is convenient. Parking lot is small but additional street parking is available. Quaint little building with a picnic table out front ( nice touch). The shop inside feels much bigger than it looks from the outside. Has a very cool vaulted ceiling with different deco throughout. There was a grab and go with the normal outsourced water bottles soft drinks and juices. They also had a case of their food items. Nothing in this food case made me want it. It didn’t look fresh, colors were bleeding into each other, Saran Wrap was stretched over items that just looked old and pale in color. In the foods defense I think it looked terrible due to the lighting. The lighting throughout was a cool-white, fluorescent type similar to fight scenes in the Matrix. The lighting did not compliment the food. I ordered a double espresso for myself and a cold brew for my wife. The woman ( I believe owner) was as most reviews indicated kind of cold. But as I started asking questions and speaking with her she opened up and spoke very professionally and polite. Her husband…… different story. He was in the back working the roasters and maybe digging ditches. He did not look like a happy guy, appeared to have the weight of the world on his shoulders. His aura sets the vibe in the store. Not inviting. My espresso was overly bold, chalky, chicory-ish and thick. The muddy taste stayed on my tongue all day, sorry not good. My wife’s cold brew was watery, weak, underwhelming in flavor and had an empty finish. While I did not have a great experience, I do think Sergi has potential. I love coffee shops and I truly hope they turn this around. If they look inward first I believe they can improve the food presentation and work on dialing the grinders in better. Good Coffee is the hook that brings customers in, they need to elevate their game a bit. I can’t give a recommendation at this time but I will continue to stop in and I look forward to writing a future...

The fact that this company has received four stars says more about the customers than it does the company.

The grouchy woman at the counter. Several reviews mention her, and for good reason. She spoils the experience in the shop. Why have someone interact with the public who has a bad attitude?!? Is that really the best "face" of the company? I don't care if the coffee is the best in the world; she alone is a reason never to return.

Another reason not to patronize the company is the knowledge of the staff. One of the other workers up front had no idea when the coffee in the bags had been roasted. And the best I could tell, the company roasts its coffee once a week or less. That completely defeats the purpose of a public roaster. By the time you pick up a bag, the beans inside could be spoiled from age. Roasted beans are only good 10-21 days maximum.

The vacuum seal is garbage. The bag I purchased had air in it and the freshness of the beans is debatable.

The beans themselves are just okay. The resulting coffee is smoother than Starbucks. However, a huge drawback is that they don't brew properly. A customer must add far more beans than necessary to result in a properly brewed pot. My first try resulted in lightly colored water.

The price. $20 for a standard bag of substandard whole beans is a ripoff.

To sum up, this company is not ready for business. Just because someone has opened a shop doesn't make it one that can reach its stated goals or the public's expectations. If you're looking for even a halfway decent roaster,...

TERRIBLE, AWFUL SERVICE! I have passed this coffee spot so many times that I finally decided to stop in. I picked up a coffee and overnight oats. I asked how sweet the oats were (because I don’t like it too sweet) I also asked how many sugars she puts in bc I was going to ask for half the normal amount. The response I got from the woman behind the counter was a snicker and “I don’t know, how many do you want”. I am use to delis and Dunkin just putting a set amount in. She made me feel stupid for even asking. I then went to leave and asked for a spoon to eat my oats bc I would not be home for hours. She said very rudely that she didn’t have one. I said ok I have to return it then bc I don’t have anything to eat it and I was hungry. She told me……I MAKE EVERYTHING DIFFICULT! 🤣. I told her she was rude and to refund me. She told me to get the hell out! It’s no wonder it was dead in there! Absolutely NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. To be honest I prefer the coffee elsewhere. Will never be returning. After reading the reviews I see I’m not the only one to notice the lack of friendliness and customer service!
