I am a resident physician who came off a 24 hour shift and came in at 2:42 pm on a Sunday for a bagel here since the place advertises it closes at 3. There was older lady with gray short hair with glasses who wasn't even taking care of my order, but began to antagonize me and verbally harass me. She told me “we open at 5 am, and our bagel maker has been up and on his feet since 3 am. And you show up 10 minutes before closing.” I politely said that I finished work at 3 am so I understand. She says “So you could have taken a nap and come at 5. And don’t compare yourself to an older man. You’re young.” When I explained I worked in a hospital, she began to go on a rant about how she comes from a line of doctors and has a ton of surgeons in her family, so to not even try to sell my story to her because she knows it’s not legal to work 12 hours straight and that call is taken from home. I should have walked out well before, but ran over to the girl who had prepared the bagel and ran out crying. The bagel is also stale and disgusting. Stay away from this establishment and do not endorse it. Never in all my years of living have I been treated with such disrespect. All because I asked for a lightly toasted bagel. Whether the President of the US or a homeless person walks through a storefront door- each individual deserves to be treated with kindness and respect. I work way too hard for some unmeaningful, miserable stranger to insinuate I have no value and argue with me whether or not I work hard enough. Absolutely...
Read moreI NEVER leave reviews, but this was absolutely disturbing to me. There was a deaf man who was clearly asking for more coffee as it had just run out. He was motioning to the coffee machine and saying “coffee” multiple times. Both workers looked at him and just ignored him and continued talking to one another and moving on to the next customer without dealing with him first. I asked “are you going to make this man a cup of coffee” to which they both responded “nope. not right now.” and I said “well then I’m not ordering until this man has been helped because you’ve both ignored him multiple times”. I know ASL myself and tried translating what he was saying and finally one of the workers came around the counter and said “fine but i’m only making him a half a pot…. there, are you guys happy??”…. HAPPY? you just treated this man like trash. He thanked me many times and looked so defeated. And another thing, she placed the coffee canister under the machine sideways and the coffee began spilling everywhere and i had to move it myself. We finally ordered and they gave us frozen, rock-solid bagels, threw them across the counter at us, and said “there now get out”… I’ve come here MANY TIMES and have never had this type of experience, but I can safely say I will...
Read moreBagel Land has my favorite bagels, but I can hardly stand going there because of the woman who is almost always behind the counter. I think she is trying to be conversational and funny, but it is truly grating and she is incapable of talking and working at the same time. She has no regard for the fact that there is often a long line waiting and will continue in her very slow speed while commenting on everything in a very passive-aggressive way. She once called me a "silly girl," when I had trouble finding the correct change, which I found super offensive, and she harped on one young woman for how many bagel dogs she ordered even though "she is a skinny little thing." She brought it up over and over and even kept mentioning it to other customers behind her. It's extremely rude to talk about someone's body regardless of their size. I am sure the owner is great - I have only heard good things - but he should really intervene with this one problem worker. It is extremely awkward to stand there waiting for what should be a simple bag of bagels and cream cheese while listening to this woman for at least 20...
