Really pains me to say this as someone who grew up on Kopp’s, and would be one of the first places I would bring friends when they visited Wisconsin or I came back home. But the Kopp’s in Brookfield really needs a revamp. It’s actually pretty sad. The place is dirty and looks like it hasn’t been maintained in many years. Think “opened in 1987 and has slowly degraded since.” Even things like the tiles on the floor.
The bathroom is disgusting, and I don’t even really care about bathrooms, but this is seriously the worst restaurant bathroom I have ever been in. The faucet seems to be about 35 years old.
And the food? I will just discuss the burgers. It’s sad, man. I keep hoping for the magic that Kopp’s used to have with their burgers, but the Brookfield location just doesn’t have it and is consistently subpar. Every time. The Greenfield location still has the magic. Specifically, a Kopp’s BROOKFIELD burger is pretty dry. Lukewarm. Not hot. Not juicy. Not greasy. Less toppings. Old looking flabby lettuce. And there is something totally different going on with the buns here. They are thicker, not well toasted, and overwhelms the burger. Whereas the best burger I’ve ever had was either a Kopp’s burger (or Au Cheval in Chicago), depending on the day and the hour, the only way to get that experience is to go to the Greenfield location. It’s almost like an entirely different company. I keep ordering burgers at Brookfield hoping that one day that magic will happen, but every burger here is consistently a 5 or 6 out of 10 at best. Not good. Bad enough where you are like “I’m not ordering that again.” Bad enough where your wife and kids won’t eat here anymore. By contrast you can get hit with a “10 out of 10 I’ve never had a better burger in my life” at the Greenfield location. Pains me to say that since I live near Brookfield. When we want a “great burger” around here, we go to Shake Shack. None of us like the Brookfield Kopp’s. Either the dirty old school (but not good old school) environment, or the food.
Kopp’s needs to invest some serious $ and care into this location or eventually people will just stop going here. Stop going to Kopp’s. Wisconsin people will stop going Kopp’s. I never thought that would be possible or at risk! But I feel it happening here. Or maybe the company doesn’t really care about the Brookfield location and it’s on its way out? Here’s hoping they figure things out here and don’t let...
Read moreI’ve been going to kopps since I was a kid with my family. And with the hot weather lately I’ve taken my kids a lot recently. Normally they do a great job but tonight the guy who made cookies in cream seemingly purposely served straight vanilla with just a dusting of oreo residue. I noticed this for my two scoops in a dish and asked for extra Oreos in a cup and guy gave me a dish with several Oreo chunks but not enough for the deficit on two scoops but I thanked him the left. I also had ordered a pint to go and didn’t realize until I was half way home that he probably didn’t put any Oreos in that too. But I finished my drive and instead of giving it to my kids poured it into a bowl to confirm that it was vanilla ice cream with a dusting of Oreo residue. Drove all the way back to let a manager know and get a refund. He said he would talk to the guy and offered to replace the pint with one that he would make really good so I opted to do that and my kids loved it. Only leaving this review to help the company know about this experience and to make sure to weed out bad apples who don’t care about their jobs. I have a hard time not thinking that this was intentional. There was a big bucket full of Oreos and this guy chose to barely put any in a very large amount of ice cream. If every employee served flavors like this kopps would go out of business. Thankfully almost all of their employees does a great job and this is probably the only bad experience that I had but it did waste a lot of my time since i had ordered to go and got all the way home before realizing the issue. In the photos you can see the pint poured out into a bowl where I searched for Oreos and only found one small piece. The other is my two scoops where the base of the ice cream literally came right out of...
Read moreWe swung by while being nearby. We ordered takeout.
Initially after walking in, I noticed the lay out was very interesting.
You walk in and it’s an ordering hall. And no seating area. There’s a separate area for sitting. Which I found interesting.
My order was ready, the gal put our ice cream order right then and there. So we got it freshly made!
We ordered food for ourselves and our kids. On their menu, they don’t necessarily have a kids menu. But we chose grilled cheese sandwiches for our kids.
I myself, got a hamburger (I added all the toppings I usually go for- lettuce, onion, tomato, pickles, ketchup). My burger was delicious. It was also MASSIVE. Which I’m definitely not going to complain about.
My husband went with the buffalo chicken sandwich. I stole a bite- it was very tasty! He loved it.
The kids loved their grilled cheese sandwiches. They were full sized, so keep that in mind if ordering for kids.
We also got fries. Which I do have to say, were nothing extravagant and not my favorite. They weren’t crunchy, just kind of floppy with no shape. I personally prefer a crispy French fry- but that’s just me!
Ending strong with a two scoop dish of the flavor of the day: Ultimate Cookie Dough.
That did NOT disappoint. The texture and the taste was to die for. So so good.
Needless to say, if we are ever in the area, we will definitely be back. I’ll probably skip the fries but definitely get ice...
