La Gran Amazonia is absolutely delicioso!
It's been a couple of days since going and I can't stop thinking about how good the food was. From the quality to the flavors and execution of every aspect of food on the plate being perfection has had me blown away. There wasn't a single thing missed in every dish that came out. I really can't get over it.
I'm a first generation American, mother and father from Ecuador and some of these plates and flavor really brought me back to my childhood. But aside from that, it was just so damn good!
The service was fantastic. Food came out fairly quick for being a packed house. And no mistakes which I admire. That means these folks are really putting in the work.
The calamari was perfection. The cook on them was flawless. My kids devoured the plate. And notably the amount of calamari served was so generous! I'll be back just for that.
El caldo de bolas were flavors I grew up with as a child. It hugged my soul!
The Churrasco Marinero was a flavor bomb! The steak and seafood were cooked to perfection, and I just could not get enough of it. Every aspect of this dish was nailed! Even the eggs which often get overdone were perfect.
The Calentado took me back to all those mornings after a family party going all night full of dancing and drinking. They hit all the flavors of the most perfectly cooked up dish from the prior night's carne, frijole y arroz. Everything just thrown into that pan with an egg on top. Nothing beats it!
Then, the higos con queso!! Are you kidding me!?! My Tia visiting from Ecuador with a big ol jar full of higos, picked from their finca and soaked for days and then cooked in the panela. I was instantly my 10-year-old self again in heaven.
Brownie con helado... I mean, what's not to love?? The brownie was so warm, gooey and delicious! Perfect ending.
I cannot wait to go back! This is 100 percent...
Read moreI start with the positive: everyone in my party (seven) liked the taste of their food and their "rice dishes" are large. Now for the not-so-good; although our waitress was very nice, she/they screwed up almost every dish. Two members of our party had to wait over ten minutes after the rest of us were served-and still problems. My dish, salmon came with a clump of dry-white rice-no salsa or anything with it. My plantanos were dryer than my napkin. And, I had one glass of (house) wine and it was $19.00!! My meal alone was $24.00. In many restaurants I could have gotten an entire bottle of wine for $19.00 But wait, there's more; EVERY SINGLE PARTY HAD A BIRTHDAY "CELEBRATION." In addition to singing, they serve a piece of cake with a flaming/smoking "Candle" and after a while the smoke was irritating many of our throats. And, forget having a conversation; the singer/music that night was so LOUD that we asked, three times, for them to lower it/her. They did however the singer raised the volume each time...she has no sense of how to "read a room." If anything, order food to go-Don't even think...
Read moreThis is a Spanish Food Restaurant with Ecuadorian specialties. The outside sign says it all...The Grand Amazon. There's definitely something for everyone's taste from meat, side dishes, salads to even hamburgers. The plate sizes are ample & full of flavor. Whether you are stopping in for just drinks & appetizers or a full family dinner, you will leave satisfied for sure. I liked the fried bananas aka plantains/platanos they were delicious and they have both styles of sweet bananas & green bananas...yummy! There menu had many options to choose from & different variations as well to please everyone. The staff was very accommodating and helpful when trying to decide on which dish to choose. The atmosphere is a comfortable cross between spanish/island/outdoors brought inside flavor perfectly mimicking the Amazon. They have lunch specials & there was talk about Bingo & kareoke nights. I recommend the steak meal and grilled chicken Caesar...
