Another Dimond in the Ruff… My son chose Mesoyios as he loves Greek Food. My family and I make it a concerted effort to have dinner together after 5:00 mass on Sundays our schedules are all over the place all the other days of the week . Doesn’t mean we go out all the time to have dinner, just means we make sure we all sit down and eat together and enjoy each other’s company. My son’s Birthday was Saturday the 19, I asked did he want me to cook? Or did he have a place to out and eat in mind. He suggested going to Mesoyios . So, after Mass on Sunday, we went . It is Amazing to me how in the town of Ronkonkoma this quaint little family owned restaurant sits in the middle of the block almost un noticeable , very easy to pass it by without noticing its even there ! I felt like I walked into a family members home to sit and have dinner together. In this day an age, its rear to find such a welcoming atmosphere with quality food . We were welcomed as if we were family members. The decor is clean , comfortable, I loved the kitchen cabinet’s they chose to put up behind the counter where the patrons can see , they will remind you of home. The two coffee pots sitting on the counter, again reminding you of home . A+ for Atmosphere. Thank you Andreas for being such a welcoming host. Now to the food. As my family and I sat together waiting for our orders , I watched all the other orders come out, the dishes looked inviting and very tasty . The food presentation was also A+ . When patrons were done eating they all seem to be very satisfied with their meal and experience here at Mesoyios. Looking at all those meals coming out of that kitchen , I understood why it took a little longer than average wait time . When food is fresh it takes a little longer. You can tell by the way it looks, the textures, and of course flavors . I love that my son , now 27 years old cares about where he sits down to eat his meals . He looks for exactly what he found , a home away from home . Good food, Good atmosphere , all created by Good People. I absolutely love telling the world when I find a fabulous place to go. Some of us don’t have family to eat with everyday. You walk past Mesoyios threshold and you’re with family. You will enjoy every aspect of your meal, I promise you that. Blessings always to you at Mesoyios Thank you for loving...
Read moreWalking in we had very high hopes. In front there was a small group of people sitting, speaking greek and laughing. The table behind us were all greek. We thought this might be a great local find.
Our server was very nice, wine pours our impressive. The complimentary pickled been salad was very good. Next came a weird brick of what we think was bread. Might have been a dense olive pound cake. We couldn't eat it to figure out what it was. That had to be the heaviest, most dry bread we have had. Should have given out some pita, we got that later and it was very good. Two of us got the lemon rice soup, that was excellence. If we would have stopped here we would have been pleased and this review could be different. Here is the bad parts.
I had Moussaka, Wife had the meatballs and a friend had the chicken rice. I order moussaka at every Greek restaurant that I go to. this had to be the most bland. Bechamel had almost no flavor, layers of eggplant needed seasoned, even the meat was bland. I tried adding salt, which I never had to do but that didn't help. My wife had the meatballs. they were fried so dark that pretty much the only flavor they had was fried. I asked for a side of tzatziki sauce. that helped cover the flavor. actually the dish should have been served with a side to start, most places do. My friend got the chicken rice, he said every layer was full of onions, in fact he said he wouldn't have been surprised if the dish actually had an entire onion cut up in there.
Having high hopes the restaurant just did not live up. It was edible if your hungry but I wouldn't give more...
Read moreThis was our first time eating from this restaurant, we ordered delivery, and we were disappointed. We ordered multiple items to try a variety, and sadly, everything missed the mark. The positives: the food was delivered very warm, not hot, but a good temperature so we know it wasn't sitting around. The pita was good. The zucchini sticks were ok, but the garlic sauce with them wasn't great. The lemon potatoes were ok, but not very lemony and the dry seasoning on them was odd. The portions were pretty good. And everything we ordered arrived correctly with just one mistake with one dish. The negatives: the food was just was not good. It lacked flavor and depth, two things that Greek food is known for. The tzatziki tasted like ranch yogurt salad dressing. The grape leaves were very mushy. The skepasti was neither hot, nor grilled, it was just a gyro, which was disappointing. The lemon soup had mushy rice in it. All of the meat in the souvlaki trio was overcooked. And it was served with fries, but both were laying over shredded iceberg lettuce and tomato, which made everything soggy and wet. None of the tomatoes, which were in multiple dishes, were fresh. Maybe it is better when dining in, but I am not sure. The food was not inedible, and as I said, was almost all accurate, and the temperature was good. So I dont think I would try it again. It was a pretty expensive let down. They do have a lot of positive reviews, so maybe it just...
