So we all know places advertise that they have the best this or the best that. For a while now a friend of mine has been telling me about one of our partners having the best French dip. To be honest I love french tips and not a lot of places can compete with some of the places that I've had them at. Tonight all that changed.
Let's jump into my review of Old City Public House .
We went for an early dinner tonight because we're going to see my friend play down at Smith's point. Anyone interested The John Fogerty Tribute Project we'll be rocking about 6:30.
When we walked in we were greeted immediately and asked where we wanted to sit. I always like my back to the wall so we sat at a table in the corner. Our waitress Ann was awesome. She made the whole experience enjoyable. She made viable suggestions on the menu and told me what the most popular dishes were. She brought to my attention that everybody loves their French dips.
I ordered a beer and the wife had a margarita, and the boy child went out on a limb and ordered a glass of water without a lemon.
Of course had to order the wings. You decided that today he didn't want to even deal with the bones but just wanted to deal with straight chicken. He really enjoyed them and said they had enough kick. Are they super hot no so for those of you that don't like to burn your mouth off these are perfect. He did ask for extra sauce because like I said in an earlier review he loves them wet. For July and August they have by 10 wings get five for free. So my son devoured 15 boneless wings.
The wife ordered a shrimp Caesar salad. Now a lot of times I caution her on ordering shrimp but wanted an honest opinion of this place. Sometimes ordering shrimp out at a restaurant you get some funky shrimp. Not here. She really enjoyed the salad she said it was well-dressed and even came with two extra dressings.
Now for my meal. Like I said I love French dips and I haven't had one in such a long time because nobody compares to a restaurant that I used to go to in Islip and have them. Well that restaurant is long gone so I've been kind of at a loss. And suggested the Brooklyn French dip. It is your traditional French dip served with au jus and had red roasted peppers in it. Sometimes the as you I have gotten has been too salty but this was absolutely perfect. At the end of the meal I jokingly said to my son I was going to drink it, so he tried it and said it was really good LOL I wanted to finish it but it was gone. The meat was tender and the bread was fresh.
My meal came with a side of fries. Usually the fries are just that a side dish that nobody cares about. I don't know if they were double fried but they were golden in color had a crispy outside with a soft Center. It may be the type of french fries they were but they were phenomenal. The meal came with a little tiny side dish of a horseradish sauce that I was probably supposed to put on my French dip. I opted not to because I wanted to taste the meat and decided to dip my French fries in it. Jokingly I told our waitress that I want a tub of this stuff to put on absolutely everything I've ever eating again.
This restaurant will definitely be in our rotation. I think we're going to plan on Monday night because as you can see in one of my pictures they have a special board and Monday is buy one get one free French dips. Check this place out if you're in the area of ronkonkoma diagonally across from the ronkonkoma...

I have gone back a few times since and I must say they have made tremendous improvements in the food and staff. Cheers to management and staff.
Went this past Monday night with another couple, I heard it switched owners since the last time we were there about 2 years ago and I wasnt impressed then so we figured we would give it another shot, the waitress seemed overwhelmed and in a rush, we got our drinks in a timely fashion and then she took our appetizer order and we got that in a timely fashion aswell, when she brought us our apps she asked if we were ready for our dinner order which we werent, she seemed frustrated that we hadnt decided yet, but we did order another round of drinks but instead of her asking if we wanted something different she just assumed we wanted all the same drinks and walked away. So we ate the wings and jumbo pretzel, nothing to rant about, our 2nd round of drinks arrived in a timely fashion and she asked us if we were ready to order our dinner which again we were not, we were having fun laughing, eating and drinking and just forgot to look at what we wanted for dinner, well she drop her hands in frustration her eyes popped wide open and then she told us the restaurant closes by 9 so we should decide to place our order soon, we apologized and told her we would be ready in 5 minutes and we were, she came back, we placed our order and our food arrived in a timely fashion, now I will say I got the FRENCH DIP SANDWICH WITH MUSHROOMS, PEPPERS AND ONIONS and it was delish, everyone else was happy with their dinners, we finished up, got the check and left a $40.00 tip and left. My reason for leaving only 3 stars was not the food or the prices or the atmosphere, it was our waitress, its important to know in times like these the consumer is very important in supporting local business, treating each other with gratitude and patience is very important, we couldve chosen a dozen other places locally but we chose Old City Public House, there are alot of people who need jobs and would treat customers with gratitude and patience, this one however did not and I think its important you the consumer know and hopefully the manager or owner know aswell so they can address the issue and make the proper changes, I want this place to thrive as its success is vital to our neighborhood and the people it employees. So in closing, even though our waitress was not good we still tipped her as if she was good because I know we are all struggling, the food was ok and the price was right. Support local business, support its employees and be grateful for the job you have because you may not have...
