I have been going to Yami-Ichi with my friends and family since they opened and it has always been a wonderful experience! It is one of my favorite restaurants in Mahopac. Not only is the food delicious but the atmosphere is cozy and the service is top notch. Some of my favorites include gyoza, katsu curry, shoyu ramen, and oyako-don. The setting is nice and intimate as there are enough tables to avoid over-crowding - every table has their own space. George's service is excellent and he is always friendly, accommodating, and knowledgable. My family loves the authentic food and beverages offered at Yami-Ichi and we will continue to dine there!

My husband and I have been looking high and low for authentic Japanese cuisine, even driving 45 minutes away from home because the reviews for Yami-Ichi were so promising, and boy were they right! We enjoyed our 14th anniversary dinner immensely, thank you. They had a special of blue fin fatty tuna that was perfection, as well as a curry nan which we had with udon and pork. I enjoyed a donburi bowl with short ribs. Honestly a really great meal. Don’t forget the potato croquettes! Please visit this family-owned restaurant, it’s a lovely, quiet and cozy space hosted by attentive and knowledgeable staff. You won’t regret it!

My wife and I went yesterday to this new Japanese spot and so glad I went (My 1st time/wife 2nd time). The food was so good and this is the only place that I totaly finished the miso soup lol. We got the ika butter, green tea drink, karaage chicken, black seewed salad, japanese sausage, wife got ramen noodles and I got the pork tonkatsu. Everything was so good even the green tea ice cream for dessert was good. The place is great, owner and chef created a real authentic restaurant usually only found in NYC but this is in Mahopac. Also they have sushi lol.

last night when we arrived for our dinner reservations of 4 people, there were about 6 or so customers sitting in the entire place. the waiter and who looks also like the manager asked us to wait outside... in the rain. we thought it was odd but figured it was due to covid restrictions. 15 minutes of the same man taking orders on the phone and tending to customers sitting there finally allowed us in. after we sat down it took him another 15 minutes to bring us water and take our order. then an additional half an hour after that to bring us the appetizers. we ordered 3 appatizers, one of which was brought out at least 20 minutes after the first two. after 45 minutes since we got the first 2 appetizers, one of the 4 entrees we ordered was brought out. we came to a restaurant to eat together as a family, not one by one, it was ridiculous. politely we asked him why the food was taking so long and why they were all coming out separately. the servers immediate response was to say “if ur not happy write a bad review, i don’t know what to tell u.” we were so taken aback, then he proceeded to raise his voice at us and yelled “u want authentic japanese food it takes a while, if ur not happy that’s your problem!!” and stormed off. i’ve never experienced such unprofessionalism, disrespect & nasty behavior from someone is a customer service institution. we immediately got up to leave, it been 2 hours and we haven’t even received all but 1 entrees. as we were walking out he ran after us aggressively and started SCREAMING AND CURSING like an absolutely maniac demanding we pay for our ENTIRE meal, even the plates we didn’t receive!!! him and the staff in the back all ran outside surrounded us in the car screaming, refusing to let us leave. it was honestly scarring, i’ve never encountered such irrational behavior. they threatened us and stood behind our car to prevent us from backing out until we paid for our entire meal. after 20 minutes of this, they gave us our meals as takeout.

Here’s the cherry on top, right as i opened my udon noodle bowl, there was a NICE 4-5 INCH HAIR IN MY FOOD! So here’s the bottom line, completely incompetent people that don’t know the first thing about customer service or running restaurant. Don’t give them your money, they should be out...

As someone who has worked in the restaurant business, I have to say I am absolutely saddened at the fact that this place considers themselves one. To start on the only positive note of the night, the food was average. There was nothing special about what me or any of my family had ordered. Now to get to the customer service: without a doubt the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. After waiting nearly an hour for our APPETIZERS you could imagine we were beginning to become upset. Each one of our appetizers came out at different times. After waiting at least another half hour the first entree comes out. My dad then asks politely if the other three entrees are goin to be out shortly to which he receives one of the nastiest responses I have ever heard a server say - "it will be out shortly, write a bad review if you want, I don't care." After this complete disrespect me and my family decide to simply get up and leave the establishment to which we hear from the server "your gonna pay you mother**er." After we were already in our car we then see all three workers (the server, the cook and someone else) burst through the door and run behind our car to which we tell them to bag up our entrees and pay in order to deescalate the situation. After this I had a chat with the server to which I heard him make excuse after excuse after excuse as to why he is having trouble keeping up with the business. We then left and once we got home we found hair in our food, an unfortunate end to an...

A tad more than I'm used to spending when I dine out but I tend to be frugal. I'm sure the quality ingredients they use cost a lot so I understand the price. You can taste the freshness and quality products that go into each recipe.

My family had: Edamame - great but hard to mess up edamame anyway lol Japanese fried chicken - SURPRISINGLY amazing. So juicy that they are dripping wet on the inside but super crispy outside, it was fantastic Shrimp Shumai - only thing I didn't like. A little undercooked I think Philly Roll - Perfect Katsu Rice bowl with Kim chi - My niece said "I want to eat here every time we come to Mahopac" after trying it. Panko fried chicken - Standard Tempura chicken, it was good Shoyu Ramen - Fantastic, so many good flavors.

Really impressed by the food. It took an abnormally long time to clear a table for us to sit but once we did the food came quickly. Great beer and Sake selection as well as soft drinks. My mother had a glass bottle coke, always a treat. I had a japanese wheat beer which I didn't even know existed. Niece had a Ramune with the glass bead. Overall great time,...
