La Conca D'oro — Restaurant in Town of Catskill

I am not usually a person who leaves bad reviews, but this was not an experience I will want to repeat. I will start by saying the food was better than average - tasted fresh and homemade. Portions were large (I ordered a Caesar salad with chicken and I could not finish it) and the final bill was less than what I expected. My problem was the service - extremely long wait time. The restaurant did not seem busy. Our reservation was for 7 and we arrived a few minutes before. Drink order was taken promptly and waitress explained drinks will take a few minutes as there was only one bartender. They did take a while, even for the sodas which should have been simple. Drinks seemed full size and no one complained they tasted water down - so that was a positive. Unfortunately the entrees took forever. We were not served dinner until after 9:00 - two hours sitting at the table. Side orders came out at completely different times - one side of sausage came right after the salads and the other two came 30 minutes later with the dinners. One dinner was forgotten, so the waitress has to place it again after delivering all the other orders - leaving that person to wait another 10 minutes while everyone else was eating. It is understandable that full service restaurants are dealing with staffing issues - but much of the discontent with this situation could have been resolved by just letting us know what was happening, instead of leaving us at the table not knowing when the diner was going to come and not coming to refill drinks. I’ve heard amazing things about this place for years and had been once myself in the past, so our experience last night was pretty upsetting. We booked a reservation for 7 for NYE. The atmosphere is kind of dark and old, Christmas lights were hung all around, would have been nice if they were on. The waitress was a young girl, she was nice and did try her best, but didnt seem to have much knowledge about things on the menu/drinks. No drink menu, and the waitress couldn’t tell us what kind of beer there was (could have asked someone if she didn’t know) The water they give us very warm, no ice. I ordered the surf and turf. The mashed potato’s tasted like the powdered instant kind, and the steak literally had no seasoning on it. It was like it was taken from a package and just thrown right into a pan. The sauce on the pasta dishes was watery. The bread was so hard, it was hard to bite into it, and the butter they give you is nearly frozen. Our entire group was unhappy with their entrees. I would say the best part of my experience was the dill salad dressing which doesn’t say much seeing as our bill was almost $400. Not the quality food or service they have had in the past. Another turnoff for me was the dirty bathroom covered in cobwebs which definitely should be cleaned. YIKES. It is never enjoyable to give a bad review however our experience was nothing short of really bad! We had family visiting from out of state and thought this could be a great option given the array of delicious meals listed on their website. The ambience was fine and parking with easy however there are two areas, very critical areas mind you, that were extremely disappointing. First, service, we were a party of eight with reservations and were satisfied with the location of our table. The issue throughout was service. The lack of attentiveness was staggering. I had to leave the table and find our server on multiple occasions. Once we were able to finally place our order our meals did not arrive for nearly an hour. Yes you read that right. Reviews of the food were across the board negative. Our 16yr son did not like his fettuccine alfredo and therefore barely ate any of it, our daughter’s “medium well” filet mignon was prepared medium rare leading to her not eating it. Our uncle’s salmon was extremely dry, our aunt took maybe two bites of her chicken dish , my chicken Marsala was by far the worst I have ever had. The pieces of chicken were so thin and firm they were bending up off the plate. My husbands Marsala over penne looked more like soup than anything.
