Vegetarians rejoice!
Where do I start? How about with the best damn sandwich I've had in years. This place was recommended to us, as my wife and I are vegetarians.
I ordered the Fontina Panino (vegan sausage, fontina cheese, arugula and fennel mustard on ciabatta) and a cortado to drink. We take out seat in the very cool back room, and only after 5 or so minutes the drink and food arrives. Now I am a complete foodie, really tough on everything I eat, but after one bite I was in love. To the point where I asked Lauren, the owner, what mustard they were using, and then ordered a panini press when I got home hoping to recreate the magic. Perfectly chewy bread, just the right balance of sweet and savory, and that mustard. Truly amazing. My wife ordered the avocado toast which she said was perfection.
I wish I could bundle this place up and ship it to New Haven because I'd be eating one of those sandwiches every week.
As for everything else: The service was great. The atmosphere laid back and funky. Everything was reasonable priced.

We stopped in on a Saturday morning and ordered an egg in pita with avocado. We were the only customers waiting for service. The guy cooking was performing his set up tasks, and was not taking a break to handle our order. The order seemed to be taking quite a long time - we were waiting at least 15 minutes. We asked what was taking so long and the woman replied, it takes awhile to cook an egg properly. The egg sandwich was ready soon after our reminder. This delay, and her snarky answer, were inexcusable. I work as a waiter, and if a manager ever heard me saying that to a customer, I would be reprimanded, and rightly. It was very expensive too. I really dig Joust. Great, extra friendly people. Lauren and Adam are really nice hosts, always make it feel welcoming. And I must say the food is mindbendingly incredible. They had these sandwiches yesterday seriously I would go there for nearly everyday if they included it on the menu. We need way better sandwich options in this town (Catskill is severely lacking in the sandwich arts) and I'm imploring the sandwich gods that Joust will put that sandwich on the menu permanently!
