Food was pretty ok/descent. After two weeks of having a taste for taquitos and having the worst bad timing with when this place was open, I FINALLY was able to hit this place up when it was open. I went in with the intention of getting my food to go. I live in Lakeshore Heights. It was early Friday evening around 5pm, not too busy. Ordered my food and they told me it be about 20 min. I ordered 2 Modelo Negra beers while I waited for my food and sat outside at their outdoor seating area. The food came up quicker then I expected (12 min) so I made the decision to eat my food at the table because I only managed to get thru half of one beer. I'm pretty much giving āāā because once they saw that I stayed to eat my food not once did they address me, ask me if I needed anything, come to ask how my food was or ask if I would like anything else. This was my first time here after being referred here over a year ago. Even when I bussed my own table, I was never asked anything about service, food or just engaged when I brought my trash, empty beer bottles into the person behind the counter. Overall they have ok/descent food. It was pretty disappointing to not be engaged on any level coming into a new food establishment other than someone standing behind the counter taking my money. You'd think coming out of covid/lockdown a family owned business would be eager to be interactive with the public š...I guess not. Is this the new...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreListen folks, Iām a local resident of Cicero and I go here all the time. The food is amazing. Understand this is NOT your chain āMexicanā restaurant. You are not going to get free chips and salsa. All of the food is handmade, not purchased in bulk. Chips are made and fried right there and donāt come in a bag. The homemade salsa is like no other, made fresh each day and is very different from those that come in a jar. It is amazing. The food is very fresh and tasty. Theresa (owner/chef) knows to make my chicken verde extra spicy. She can do anything you wish. The birrea is the best, I mean, the best Iāve had, a bit salty but again made fresh and extremely tasty. If you want the same old Americanized Mexican food, donāt go here. If you want a local family friendly restaurant with delicious food made with fresh ingredients daily, and unique flavors, then this is your place. Donāt be upset if you have to wait because others feel the same way and sometimes the slightly small restaurant can be filled on a Friday/Saturday night, but for me it is absolutely worth it. Great drinks as well -...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe had heard good things about Carmelitaās, but unfortunately it was very disappointing. Service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant is cute and clean. They did not give you chips and salsa as most Mexican restaurants do when you are seated, so we ordered a trio of queso, salsa and guacamole. The chips were awful. Some chips were over cooked and tasted burnt and others were so undercooked that they were chewy. I ordered the shrimp tacos for $15 and got two very small tacos with a total of six small pieces of shrimp. There was cheese and a few tomato chunks in the taco, but no lettuce or sauce or cabbage slaw, etc. The shrimp was cooked well, however it had no seasoning. My daughter ordered chicken enchiladas which came with rice and beans for $18. The rice was hard (completely undercooked) and was not edible. The few bites she did take tasted like plain white rice. The shredded chicken in the enchiladas was also flavorless. My daughter had a spicy margarita which she did enjoy. However, this meal cost us close to $80 with tip and we were completely...
