The very definition of a has-been local favorite.
Good restaurants can have bad nights, that shows in the service OR food quality. But when the restaurant fails at both at the same time AND management doesn't acknowledge your private complaint, then you ate at a bad restaurant.
I used their website's Contact Us with the following on May 7 and haven't heard a peep from them:
I am disappointed in the Euclid after our 1st visit last night. We try to avoid chain restaurants but was reminded last night that chains provide a necessary component for a night out: quality.
My wife and I entered last night when the place was less than 1/3 full but the hostess attempted to seat us at a very tiny table in the middle barely 2' from another table of diners. We requested to sit somewhere further from other diners and she obliged. But the next group seated was placed at the table right next to ours; this made for an uncomfortably close experience. (Especially as the other table often had phlegm-filled noisy coughs which you have no control over but set the scene for an unenjoyable meal.)
After being excited about the variety on the menu (and the reputation for good food) we ordered and waited. And waited. About 10 minutes later the waitress brought out 2 dinner rolls with a huge basket of too-cold butter.
Finally get our meal and my wife's cheese burger was ordered medium but was so thin that it was impossible to cook to any temperature. And we are woefully unimpressed that American was the ONLY style of cheese available.
My chicken & biscuits was something. Plenty of chicken and gravy, couldn't see the biscuits until I started eating. But I'm glad I asked for the peas & carrots side dish because that plate was void of color otherwise. The peas had an obvious and unpleasant canned taste and the chicken/gravy was very salty.
Nothing about our order should have taken more than 5 minutes to prepare - the burger was so thin is would cook within a few minutes and the chicken/biscuits was surely a scoop-and-serve plate. Yet we waited far too long for the unimpressive food. And I'm shocked there wasn't an attempt to make even a portion of our meal be actually homemade. It was all so obviously pre-packaged. (The dinner rolls were decent, but still served as they were bought straight-from-the-store, still connected and not warmed.)
We muddled through the meal because we were on a bit of a schedule and are not the kind of couple to incessantly make a scene. We decided to simply scratch this place off our "local-restaurant" list.
And something about her meal made my wife's stomach uneasy the rest of the evening, including vomiting within an hour of the meal. (No, not food poisoning obviously, but just the general experience combined with the unsettled food.)
I share our experience in hopes that honest feedback is taken seriously and not attributed to being a grumpy customer. Good luck with any changes and I'm sorry that we left with such a...
Read moreWe met some family here tonight for dinner. They suggested the Euclid. It's been a staple in their family for many years so why not have a family dinner here while we are visiting. It's a restaurant/ bar so they have a pretty broad menu. I did check out their menu online before heading there and they have a lot to pick from.
The venue is a smaller joint. The bar was packed with patrons. We were sat in the dining area. The way they initially had the tables set up for us didn't really work. It was an awkward set up. After our server realized that they seating arrangement was a flop, she added another table to give us some more elbow room.
Dinner was finally ordered and we had fresh bread to work on. They were nice and. I appreciate all the butter they gave us with the rolls. Of course we will have bread with our butter.
For dinner my husband and I shared the Italian platter. It came with quite a few things. Chicken parmesan, fettuccine, ravioli and lasagna. It sounded perfect, a little bit of everything! For our side we got a side salad with blue cheese.
The salad was ok. Your generic bagged salad from your local food distributor. Nothing but the salad mix and 1 cherry tomato. The blue cheese dressing was different. I had a couple bites and I was over it. Our Italian plate looked fabulous! Lots of sauce on everything. The fettuccine was creamy and thick. The noodles were cooked nicely. I wish I would have liked the marinara sauce that they used for the ravioli, chicken parm and lasagna. There was something off about the sauce that I didn't really care for. I ate a couple bites of everything and was done. The sauce was not my favorite.
Our server did a decent job. I know she was handling a couple other tables so she was busy. You can tell she'd forget something but will remember and drop off the soda, extra plate or silverware.
I'm happy we got to eat here tonight for dinner so we could see family. Service was nice. The food just didn't hit for me. It's cool I'll get to tell people that I ate at a...
Read moreLet me start off with saying that I know every so often a restaurant has an off night but that wasn't the problem this night. We arrived before 5 on a Sat evening with 5 people. 3 adults and 2 children 10 and under. Not a long wait for a table but certainly a long wait for drink orders to be taken. There were at least 5 wait staff working the dining room. Drinks ordered, 3 waters and 2 orange sodas. The waters (for adults) came promptly while the sodas did not arrive within 10 minutes. I stopped our waitress and asked about the sodas and she replied that she has to get hot food out first because people get upset if their food is served cold. Well, OK! Things went down hill from there. Food was ordered and when it arrived it was just warm, not hot. Ok, we decided to make sure the kids ate and we would take our food home to eat. This was because our waitress had just been in a verbal confrontation at another table and said she had to stop doing her job to cut up more salad greens. That is probably what she was doing when our food was up and that is why it was just warm. We waited after that to get boxes to go and our check. I noticed that every table our waitress was responsible for was having the same type of service that we had received. I know that the Euclid is an institution in this area. I have attended various banquet events there over the years. With so many chain places in Clay and surrounding areas it is wonderful to have a family place that is locally owned and run. I know that our decision not to go back to the Euclid will not mean one thing to the business over all but I hope this review keeps at least 1 family from making the same...
