It's really hard to mess up pancakes but-- what can I say? These were probably the worst pancakes I've ever ordered. Without a lot of choices close to the hotel, I decided to throw caution to the wind and ignore the many negative reviews. A little after 9:00am we ordered three orders of pancakes and one order of a single waffle. The person who took the order was not particularly friendly. We were off on the wrong foot immediately when I used the in-room menu to place my order. She told me they simplified the menu two weeks ago and are no longer offering many of the items listed there. How are guests to know? Breakfast arrived with small condiment cups of a margarine-type product, something resembling maple syrup and a small bowl of sliced strawberries and blueberries. One of the pancake orders had pancakes so raw the batter was wet in the middle. Overall they were thin (closer to crepe than a fluffy pancake) and flavorless save the greasy griddle aroma. The waffle seemed like a better option but was so small (for $12) that I'm not sure it would even have filled my 6-year-old. After the guests in our second room woke up, they called to order breakfast only to be told that they could no longer get anything. Mind you the in-room book says breakfast is served until at least 11am. We called just a few minutes after 10am. When I called downstairs to check with guest services they told me that my in-room guide should have been changed but breakfast is served until 10:30am. Without an apology or hesitation they transferred me back to the Seaway Grille. Of course, no one picked up and eventually it went to a recorded message. I'm not sure if it was such a hardship that my other guests didn't get breakfast that morning. I don't normally write a bad review but the Seaway Grille really deserves it. Honestly, the food is below hospital quality. The lack of courtesy was appalling. If you want to be treated like you're doing them a favor by ordering a $12 waffle or pancake before 10am then by all means go ahead. Not even the fancy silent "e" on "Grille" can disguise this as anything more than sub par cafeteria food.

** Update: after checking out, we were charged an even $75 for the three orders of pancakes, a waffle and carafe of OJ. Even with with mandatory 22% gratuity and tax that's more than it should be. Complete waste of time and money. Don't make the same mistake thinking the other reviews were...

My family and I have been here a few times over the years and are always underwhelmed. We only go back because there is not a large selection of restaurants to choose from in the area. However this year was by far the worst. Service was extremely slow and the food was mediocre to bad with several of us being unwilling to finish our meals. Then the bill came and they slapped a 22% tip on for being a large party. I understand the auto-gratuity is common for large parties, but it was not mentioned anywhere on the menu. We objected as the poor service (30 minutes between check ins by the server) did not warrant a 22% tip and there was no warning of this policy (which they are legally required to put on the menu). The manager simply said it was policy and needed to compensate for the lower hourly wages that their employees make. Ummm that’s your problem! The prices have also increased so 22% was an even harder pill to swallow. The kicker is that the bill even says “you are free to adjust this gratuity up OR DOWN”. The manager simply refused and claimed “the system won’t allow us” (also your problem). We will certainly not be back after this...

How do you screw up a 40th anniversary dinner? Eat at the Seaway Grill in Clayton. Our waitress was attentive but lacked skills to be in this profession. She took our order of House Salad with chicken and a hamburger. It was delivered within 15 minutes. The salad came without the requested chicken and the hamburger was mooing it was so rare. I asked another waitress to have ours come to our table and asked her to take the bigger back because I could not eat a raw hamburger and also the chicken was missing from the salad. She apologized and took my plate back to the kitchen only to return about 5 minutes later with my same hamburger on the same roll but now having been microwaved on the plate. How do I know this? The lettuce on the burger was now the consistency of cooked spinach, the meat was grey and the bun was soaked through still from the blood of the raw hamburger. It was disgusting. The chicken was brought out on a plate to add to the salad. I was so disappointed that our celebration dinner...

We came here for my birthday, the crab dip was 18$ and came with like 7 pieces of naan. It was clear they wanted you to ask for more, which on our bill was an extra 4$. The filet was amazing, the salad was nice and lite, but the seafood scampi no longer comes with lobster, it just has shrimp, scallops, & some clam meat. We had a nice experience, but the boat tours drop people off rt in the middle of where you eat and I mean it is a hotel so a lot of obnoxious around us. The birthday went un announced by staff so to me that was a relief but my wife wasn’t thrilled. We even paid for cheesecake to sit by the fire but we sat and sat and sat and no one turned it in for us. We are headed somewhere else to continue our night. The welcoming vibe we got when we got here did not continue through their busy hours. 2 stars for atmosphere but the food wasn't half bad just ridiculously expensive for what it was so 3 stars for food. There are better places to eat in Clayton but the view is to die for.

I enjoyed Christmas cocktails in the bar lounge area both evenings of our stay. Loved the upscale holiday ambiance and friendly staff. I ordered the Christmas Margarita both evenings and enjoyed the pomegranate blended nicely with triple sec and tequila, sage and cranberry. The first evening it was perfect blend but the second was made too strong but packed with ice, so completely two different cocktail’s. I ordered grilled filet mignon medium rare that came carrots and potatoes. Large bread basket with several butter options. Unfortunately the steak was delivered with no pink in the middle so well past medium rare. Still tender and juicy though with Auju, carrots and potatoes were plentiful and cooked and flavored well. The Christmas Margarita was taken off the bill to compensate for steak not being cooked to perfection. Both visits were very pleasant!
