Gene's Fish Fry has a great fish fry. Gene's has a full menu including fish, hamburgers, fries, chicken fingers, and milkshakes. The fish here is fresh, fried, and fantastic! Make sure to try their homemade tartar sauce; it's easily the best in the area. The coleslaw is also very good. Ordering food here is easy. Just go to the first window after you make your pick. They will call your name when the food is ready. If eating at the restaurant you will get a tray for your food. They also do takeout. The restaurant is open seasonally. All seating is outdoors on picnic benches. On a clear day you see the Corning Tower in the distance. When driving here the entryway is easy to miss. You will to find a narrow road that goes by the restaurant and to the parking lot. The restaurant is surrounded by big box stores and across the street from the Off Shore Pier restaurant! If you live in the Capital Region this restaurant is a must! Try it as soon as you can.

We were originally going to eat at the place across the street but they don’t accept cards. We called here and they said yes so we came over. We ordered the Halibut meal and the mixed seafood plate. The food was fried perfectly. No oil soaking the plate and the breading held on just right. The only change I’d recommend is to better season their macaroni salad. It needs chopped onions, more celery, dill and sour cream. It’s a bit bland as we had it but nothing to really complain about because we came for the seafood. Everything tasted very fresh and the prices were a decent value. Enjoyed our food a lot and will definitely come back.

Don't go if you're hungry. The portions are small and will leave you wanting more. The tartar sauce tasted like mayonnaise with a few chunks of pickle added. The chocolate shake came in a small (approx 12 oz) cup with a tiny straw to match. The fish itself was tasty, but again, not enough in this meal to fill me up. Outdoor picnic tables are offered under a canopy, so bring a sweater if it's chilly.

First time going here, right off the bat I hear my shoes sticking to the dingy tiles on the floor. I've never been to a "restaurant" so dirty under the tables were greasy like there were years of cakened gum. The condiment station has in plain view caked dirt and appears to be oily. Every decoration including the shelves had dust and grime on them. And they play radio music off a gainy cheap radio no younger than 10 years old. Everything in this place is dirty and gross like it's never been cleaned. Now the food,I got a clam roll and a fish fry. Clam is fried frozen from a bag(no suprise) but even after putting extremely little effort in this establishment they manage to take it further by having stale buns to serve you. Now the fish fry which I'd imagine is why you come to this disgusting location was breaded with no binder, just water and flour,it has no *ing flavor and the breading fell apart because they only use water to bind;the fish didn't even have salt. They said it was cod but had the texture and skin of haddock which is whatever but to put it on a stale bun that immediately fell apart from putting your garbage fish on the bun without straining the oil is a sin. The food is garbage I just threw out the fish as it was inedible and I eat at real restaurants and long gone are the days of having a pallate of a child. I should've know by the trailer crowd there that the food would lack any of the traits that make food good, there is no fat, salt, acid or heat it's just fried garbage in a disgusting restaurant that sells food to people who crave cuisine from the depression era. If you enjoy this food you haven't ever grown passed eating kraft mac and cheese this place is the worst restaurant I've been to in the capital region of which I've been to most from Vietmaneese,Thai,Polish,Korean,American, and fusion restaurants. Eat somewhere better this isn't real food,it's 1 parallel step from corner...

I have heard people rave about Gene's Fish Fry for a few years now, but today was my first time trying them. Other than the people being so nice, I have no idea what there is to rave about. Hands down, the worst onions rings I've had in years. The 3 of us here all agreed. I'd say Sysco onion rings, but they honestly weren't even that good. I had the mixed seafood dinner. The mac salad that came with it was so bland, it almost tasted like straight up plain noodles. The scallops were fishy. The shrimp look like the cheap, breaded shrimp you get from run-of-the-mill fast food places, but they tasted ok. Clam strips were nothing special and I've had about the same from boxed, frozen. A little tough, though. The fish itself was ok, but a little bland, like it needed salt. I will say, however, their cocktail sauce was pretty good. My wife got the chicken finger dinner. Sysco-ish in nature and not special. The fries were gross and looked like they had seen better days. Our 4yr old enjoyed her grilled cheese. I had a bite and will say it was pretty good, lol. The good things: They got our order correct and they...
