Sushi was delicious! My daughter has been craving a sweet potato roll so decided to take her on a little dinner date. We have been to Yamasho before for the hibachi but this time decided on dinning at a table. We started with the hamachi jalapeno appetizer and edamame. The hamachi was absolutely amazing! The fish was very fresh and perfectly sliced into nice generous portions, every piece was topped with the perfect amount of spice. For sushi we ordered the Sweet Potato roll, Kani Tempura roll, Foxy Lady roll, Narnia Fantasy roll, and Surf & Turf roll. The sushi was beautifully presented and was absolutely delicious. Everything had perfectly balanced flavors and textures and everything was fresh. My favorite was the Surf & Turf roll the steak on top was cooked perfectly. I'm always happy to try a unique roll and this one was amazing. My daughter's only complaint was there was no sauce on the Sweet Potato roll, we just asked for a side of eel sauce and that fixed that. We also ordered the steak hibachi this was also perfectly seasoned and delicious. For dessert we had tempura ice cream and the tuxedo bomb. The tempura ice cream was very good the other dessert was just okay. I thought the presentation of the tuxedo bomb was weird to have it cut open it takes away the bomb part of the cake and doesn't match the picture on the menu. In all it was a great dinner. The service was very nice and the food was excellent. The atmosphere was okay it was not busy but we got sat close to the door and saw a lot of takeout going out or being ordered, and even if your not there for the hibachi you still will hear it and this can get load. But we will definitely be back for more...
Read moreHere’s the deal: I’ve been looking for good sushi in Syracuse for YEARS and I finally just gave up and settled on mediocre sushi. That finally changed when I discovered Yamasho Sushi Steakhouse, where I discovered I didn’t have to settle for mediocre sushi in Syracuse again.\
Their ingredients are fresh and you can actually taste the fish flavor coming through their rolls. They also like to go the extra mile and take time to dress-up the plates with edible artwork and fun garnishes.
My favorite two rolls, which I tend to order every time, are the Out of Control roll and the Red Blossom roll (which is my favorite). The restaurant also hosts several hibachi tables. I’ve never actually sat at one of the hibachi tables, as this is my go-to for just sushi, but I will say that I’ve had some of their hibachi dishes, such as the steak and shrimp, and was impressed with how well they cooked the shrimp (most places go over-board and turn them into rubbery abominations).
Yamasho also offers a full bar and specialty drinks. If you’ve been disappointed with previous sushi experiences in Syracuse I’d suggest giving this place a try and seeing how...
Read moreDecided to give this place a try after reading a lot of good reviews, and true enough the food is good. Not great, but good and the place has a nice atmosphere. The staff were friendly and attentive, but our hibachi chef was a bit under-enthused. Still, they put on a good enough show. My only real complaint is that they automatically charge an 18% gratuity on your bill. It's a bit of a shame because I was prepared to leave a 20% to 25% tip since I thought the service was quite good, but since they felt the need to auto charge 18%, I left it at that. Tips are there to incentivize good service, so if you auto-charge, what's the incentive to do well? What if service had been horrible? I still would have been forced to tip 18%. At the very least, they should make you aware of this ahead of time. Again, not the end of the world, but worth mentioning. Also, the salad was 90% iceberg lettuce. Kinda lame.
Overall, not bad, but you're better off going to some place like Mitsuba in Camillus or Saki...
