Chatham Grill — Restaurant in Town of Ghent

This is one of those places I am hesitant to write about because I don't want it overrun, but for several years now this has been one of our most reliable local places for a simple but delicious meal, served by very friendly people, in a lovely and charming setting. We were there last night for burgers (these are seriously delicious, served with a third of a beautiful caramelized pan-fried onion, really nice cole slaw, and a healthy half-pound patty); we also had the chopped salad (better eat-in than take-out). We also tried the turkey pot pie (again, something I think that would be better there than taken away) which is more like a stew with some bread, and which might be too garlicky for some. We have eaten here probably two dozen times, never been disappointed and sometimes really...

Great service! Let me start with that!

We got seated right away and our server was very prompt in telling us the specials.

We got the seasonal soup and a torta sandwich and salmon salad. The menu was reasonably priced and we loved all the food we ate. The bar and seating area has a rustic feel to it and was quite cozy. The salmon salad was my favorite, it's really fresh and fish was cooked just fine!

Our food arrived in a decent time. I wouldn't say it was quick compared to typically how bars serve food so we waited a while. The place wasn't too crowded either so it was a little surprising but it's ok.

Our server boxed our food and helped us with the check very nicely. What got us here was their menu which was sounded delicious. Even their dinner options were lovely....

I wish this was a better review, but 'average is all it deserves. Friendly staff saved it from a 2/5.

The menu is way too sprawling and clearly the chef had little idea how to execute it well.

The gazpacho was tasty, but was a rushed preparation with a tomato juice base. With a few simple touches, namely some ingredients blended together, it could have been excellent.

My shrimp scampi with angel hair was drowning in water, random clumps of melted cheese and zero flavor. The burger ordered had to be sent back for a total incorrect cooking temperature.

My advice: slash the menu and get those dishes excellent. Have a couple of specials and deliver on them. My fear....Gordon Ramsey Kitchen...
