Manderfield's Home Bakery West — Restaurant in Town of Grand Chute

We went to Manderfield's to shop for wedding cakes. As a donut shop, they are great. For wedding cakes they really leave a lot to be desired. Especially with the attitude of the person who handles their events Deanna. We called the store and was put into her voicemail. I left a message and let them know the date of the wedding and that we would email them as well. My fiance emailed and the lady called back after she got back from vacation. When she called back she didn't even seem to want to talk to my fiance. She finally did and my fiance sent over all of the information except what cake flavors she wanted. The lady said she would call or email on Tuesday. on THURSDAY I called the store and asked to speak to the manager. The manager was actually really helpful and didn't seem to understand why the events coordinator would have dropped the ball. After a few minutes on hold this Deanna picked the phone up and said that since we had shopped around with another bakery, she didn't know if she was comfortable even making a cake for us. She told me that I was wrong for calling and involving anyone else in her not doing what she said. When I told her that all I expected was for her to follow through on what she said she would do, she said that she didn't know for sure that she could do that. In my experience in business, I want to get and keep all the business I can. So knowing that someone is shopping around would make me want to try harder. And I don't know of a bride that picks 1 bakery and doesn't look around at all. If someone has an ownership interest in a business it seems like they would care more about their business than the manager. Not so in this case. We WILL NOT be doing business with Manderfield's in the near or distant future. if they can't follow through with a simple phone call on time then what makes you think they can get a complicated cake made and delivered on time. In my opinion, if you are looking for a wedding cake, I would most definately look elsewhere. Maybe to a company that does what they say they are going to do when they say they are...

Future Brides Beware! While the bakery is delicious, the staff service leaves a lot to be desired. I went in during a non-busy time (I was the only customer in the store besides another one that was being helped already) and was 'greeted' by a young lady (Emilee) who was less than helpful when I inquired on wedding sample cakes. She insisted I was talking about tortes that were located at the other end of the store and constantly rolled her eyes while explaining this to me like I was a 2 year old and told me that I needed to make an appointment to talk about wedding cakes. When I tried to explain further what I was looking for (small wedding sample cakes for sale), she insisted that I was wrong. Another employee (Lonnie?) walked up to us and stated that they didn't have sample cake slices to try. I again explained that the sample cakes, not slices, were in the back and usually frozen. Lonnie then stated, "oh yeah, well, we have those but I couldn't tell you what flavors are available." I politely asked if it was possible to take a look to see what flavors were available and to be honest, it was like I was asking for a kidney. Choosing Manderfields for our wedding cake was a no brainer for us because their products are all unique and delicious. They also offer a wide selection of flavors, fillings, toppings and customizing options for their cakes. We were able to book our wedding date over 8 months in advance and met with them much closer to the date to select our flavors. Each time we contacted Deanna, she responded promptly and was helpful. She gave suggestions based on our interests - which is how we ended up with iridescent glitter on all our sheet cakes! My husband and I wanted to have 3 different sheet cakes for our guests and an 8 inch cake for us to cut. For our cake to cut, we wanted a unique style. We showed Deanna some photos during our consultation and she passed on our ideas to the bakers/decorators. When we saw the cake on our wedding day we were blown away by the amazing job they did on our cake. It was incredible! Many of our guests complimented us on how delicious the sheet cakes tasted.
