First time, dining in on their first busy Friday after reopening earlier in the week. Lovely overall; they are a model trattoria; not too fancy but better than an eatery. The new space suits well with large open dining room with high ceilings. We sat not far from doors which are intended to be open during mild weather. The guests at the table behind us used them several times as quick access to outside for a smoke. The doors do not fully close without a firm tug, so that cold and smoky air came in and disturbed nearby diners. I got up to close the door each time the table went for a smoke. Piccolo staff, could you please ensure that the doors remain closed during serving hours as your sign now requests.
Classic menu featuring homemade pasta dishes, salads, and first rate secondi. My husband and I chose the roasted Branzino ( European Sea Bass). Served as a whole fish but easy to debone. Very nicely done and not too large a portion with mixed sautéed vegetables and a modest portion of mashed potatoes.
A special note on the pace of the meal and serving hours. Being a busy day, we phoned in advance to reserve a table. We prefer a later dining time, around 9:00 pm. But restaurants in the area are often ‘wrapping up’ service at this time so we hear lines such as — ‘kitchen is closing in 5 minutes’, or ‘ we’re out of this or that’ or ‘don’t worry we won’t kick you out. There was none of that here - we were served at a leisurely pace with wine, bread (on request) and starters after a time which allowed us to enjoy the wine rather than rushing through so that the restaurant staff can close up. Bravo! Bravo! We left after enjoying desserts ( pistachio gelato and a fruit dish with mozzarella) and espresso drinks. On our way out in the bar, we were treated to a voice student singing. Highly...
Read moreI have been going here for a few years now. Family dinners, friends, meetings, girl’s nights, birthdays, etc... It’s always amazing, and never disappoints.
The food is delicious, the ambience is perfect. Every single person that works at Piccola is friendly and helpful. The owner and his wife are delightful people. Sergio, the owner, comes out of the kitchen, often, to mingle and make sure everyone is taken care of.
I have had catering from Piccola on several occasions. The owner personally goes over the menu with you. I have had them set it up for me, for parties, several times…and everything was perfect. Everyone raved. So many people asked who did my catering.
Most recently, Sergio saved me when I was responsible for the meals on a movie set in NYC. I was in a pinch when my carefully laid plans fell apart, and, last minute, went to Sergio for help. This was for a pick up. The chaffing dishes were beautifully boxed and easy to transport. And even though I had to drive an hour into the city, and then carry everything to a PH suite, where they were filming, and then unpack it…the food was PERFECT. I wish I had photos, but that day was so crazy. I did get a call from the producer, the next day, who said everyone was glowing about the meal from Piccola, saying it was the best food they ever had on a set. So kudos for that. Actually kudos for everything to everyone at Piccola!
There’s a separate bar area—I’ve stopped by with friends, for drinks, after an event, etc…it’s a cool spot on its own. Also, the restaurant is beautiful. The decor. You can see everything from outside. If you walk by, any day of the week, you’ll see a restaurant/bar full of...
Read moreYou have not had fine dining until you eat at this restaurant. It is the sweet spot between Small enough where everyone treats you like Family but super classy. I live locally at Dobbs Ferry and the local community. Call it classy cheers. The first time that I sat down and had a full meal, I was with my son and the owner came out and serve the food and he intentionally makes connections with the patrons every night. No matter what I choose on the menu, it is always spectacular. My favorite drink is a signature drink, which is the Piccola that Pete the bartender created among several other signature drinks that are only three ingredients that won’t leave you with a hangover. The food has complex textures and flavors, and there are always many specials. The seafood and fish here are always especially phenomenal, but you can never go wrong with any of the pastas. I love the personal touches the picture of the owner. Sergio was a little boy inside the wine list and the decorations that all have a personal story.
The bar is my favorite place to sit, which is the center stage of the restaurant and is absolutely gorgeous and the atmosphere is beautiful unlike most locations where the bar is so dirty little corner off to the side. Every single staff person is absolutely phenomenal and brings warm and kind and energy that if they are welcome into their own home.
Classy...
