Go figure, the restaurant with "fish fry" in the name, makes a good fried fish.

Was feeling the craving for some fried sea food this week, so my boss recommended I try Ted's Fish Fry as he knows I'm a take out kinda guy. So I ordered over the phone going with the Seafood Platter Dinner and an order of the Fried Calamari, coming to a little over $30 before tip.

Thing were pretty busy inside when I arrived to pickup my meal, but luckily I didn't need to wait in line after Sasha got my order and directed me to the checkout area.

When I got home and opened up the bags everything smelled pretty fantastic and looked good too, though I was a little surprised that it was not in a container at all and just sitting on a plate with a loose wax paper covering it. Though that may have helped keep it nice and crispy still, otherwise the heat from the food would end up steaming everything, and steamed fried food is no good.

The flavor also matched my expectations with the calamari knocking it out of the park, seasoned just right and paired really well with the cocktail sauce. The main dish was no pushover either, the shrimp was nice and big, the scallops were morsels of flavor bombs, the clams were fun to pack into the provided hotdog bun for a carnival feel, and of course the fish was juicy and good for dipping into the tarter sauce. The french fries were alright, but nothing compared to the seafood spread.

Overall, a good recommendation by my boss....

I wanted to treat my grandparents, who have enjoyed Ted's before. I called to put in an order for pickup. It didn't go very well. The young woman who picked up the phone answered in a huff, but I have worked food and retail and I know how busy and frustrating it can be, so I'm not going to judge her for that. I tell her that I wanted to put in an order for pickup, but I don't get to finish my sentence because she cuts me off and says "you're gonna have to wait" and puts the phone down. I spend the next 5 minutes listening to them package up orders. She never came back to apologize for making me wait or let me know it would be a little longer. Honestly, I would have happily waited, but I didn't know what was going on. Again, I know how busy it gets and if she had treated me like she wanted my business, I would have waited 10 minutes on hold for good food. I hung up and tried calling back a couple of times, but no one answered. My cousin and I debated going elsewhere for dinner but I decided that I wasn't going to "punish" the restaurant for one employee, so I ordered via GrubHub. The food arrived fairly soon and was fresh and tasty. The fish was light and flaky. I would eat at Ted's again, I would just suggest to whoever answered the phone that she is a representative of the business and being cut off, barked at, and ignored doesn't bode well for...

We’ve been coming to Ted’s since this location opened. We come every Friday after my son gets out of school. The food is great! The only thing that we’ve gotten that wasn’t that great was the fried shrimp, the batter was too thick and really overwhelmed the shrimp. The fish and chips is delicious and the portions are huge. The fried oysters are my favorite. Make sure you get some New England clam chowder! It’s delicious. Huge pieces of tender, not chewy, clams. The prices are a little high but the quality is great so we don’t have any issues with that. The restaurant is clean with ample seating. It looks like eventually they will have fresh fish available to purchase but I’m not sure when that will be available. The only reason it isn’t a five star review is because the service can be a little spotty. All the employees are friendly and helpful but the system they use to take orders and fulfill them does them no favors during peak times. Orders are constantly messed up and mixed up. Perhaps writing a ticket for each order and placing it on the tray would help distinguish between orders and help streamline the process. Overall we really enjoy coming here each week and we are never disappointed...

This was our first experience at Ted’s Fish Fry and it was very disappointing. There was a woman, who may have been a manager, who was incredibly disrespectful to the other employees. I actually felt bad for some of the things that my boyfriend and I overheard her say to the guys who were working there; pretty much verbally abusive and disconcerting. Moreover, the food was not even good quality, nor did it look appetizing in any way. It was $14.00 for some very soggy fish and chips, and the portion sizes were quite small for the price. Nevertheless, the worst part was definitely that woman’s attitude toward the other employees. We will not be coming back.

Ted’s Fish Fry has long been a Capital Region staple. The fried fish here is some of the best in the area. The restaurant in Clifton Park is clean, neat, spacious, and has plenty of seating. The food is delicious. Definitely try the fried haddock, clam strips, or calamari. They also serve good non-fish foods like chicken strips, burgers, hotdogs, and salad. The service here was friendly and fast. This restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. Takeout orders should be placed on Mealeo. Give Ted’s a try; they have been in business for over 75 years for a reason.
