We purchased a Jeldwen sliding glass door for our kitchen that cost almost $2500 installed. It's the kind of door that has a hinges in the center so it opens completely to one side. Apparently none of the contractors home depot hires has installed this type of door.
The hired installer subcontracted the install to a local guy. He spent a full day trying to install it and left before it was finished. He came back 3 or 4 times to try and finish the install. The door was so hard to slide open, my wife and kids could not even open it. If closed, it was literally impossible to open from the outside - the outside handle was not installed and you could not slide it open. Also, the door leaked air between the glass and frame (we are pretty sure this was caused by the impact when the installer let one of the door slabs fall 90 degrees flat onto the deck).
After fighting with the assistant manager at Home Depot, the factory sent a rep to our house. He verified the rough opening was 3/8 out of square and the door was installed too far out from the exterior wall. The installer and his subcontractor fought his findings. After a full summer, we had a total of 10 visits to our house and still had a door that leaked air and half our family couldn't open or close.
Half way through winter, Jeldwen agreed to give Home Depot a new door under the warranty to solve the leaking air problem.
Home Depot wanted to have the same installer reinstall the replacement door, reusing the same trim. Obviously we had no confidence in either the installer or the subcontracted installer and we were afraid we would end up with a door that was difficult to open and close.
We asked for our money back. It seemed fair to us that Home Depot could keep the new door they received from the manufacturer and we would just pick out a different door. We were told NO, the warranty door has to be installed. We were told that if the 2nd door has issues, then we can talk about the next step. Mind you that next step was never revealed to us.
So in the spring, the original installer tried to get the same subcontractor to reinstall the 2nd door. We refused and insisted on another installer. This was agreed to but it took multiple calls to Home Depot to not have the same trim, which had been installed and removed 3x, be used again.
After nearly a full year and 12 house visits, we have a door that is still difficult to open and close. We were not given one penny off for the grief this has caused - even after we asked for it.
Clifton Park Home depot was absolutely terrible to work with. The assistant manager fought us tooth and nail over everything and the store manager backed her up 100%. I will never step foot inside that...
Read moreThis is the first negative review I've written, but you really need to know this if you're thinking of buying a Major Appliance from Home Depot.
First off, most major appliances, (E.g. refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, washer/dryer...) purchased from HD are now considered to be a "special order," due to the fact they only have the floor model in the store. Therefore it needs be be shipped directly to the customer from their warehouse. They said that's pretty standard at HD, post Covid. That being said, HD has a strict 48 HOUR RETURN/ REPLACEMENT POLICY ON ALL "special order" major appliances.
The way I found this out is... I recently purchased a brand new Whirlpool refrigerator from my local HD store. Just 5 days after it was installed, the freezer and ice machine both stopped working. After speaking with the Home Depot Store Mngr. he informed me of their strict 48 hour return policy, and since it'd now been 5 days, I needed to call Whirlpool under my 1 yr. manufacturer's warranty and they would send a service tech. out to fix it. I explained that the machine was 5 days old and that I didn't want it serviced. Instead I wanted to bring it back and get a brand new refrigerator, as would anyone! Keep in mind, I was not asking for a refund, just a new fridge that worked. The mngr. then informed me that if I had purchased the additional insurance from HD, then I could return it. Unbelievable! I have never heard of a store that will not take back a brand new appliance that stops working five days after purchase! I don't even know if that's legal in NYS, but Home Depot gets away with it. I even spoke with HD Corporate and got the same response...NO RETURNS/EXCHANGES AFTER 48 HRS OF PURCHASE ON MAJOR APPLIANCES.
So, if you're thinking of buying a major appliance from Home Depot, simply ask what their Return/Exchange Policy is.
As far as Whirlpool's customer service, not only have they refused to give me a new refrigerator, to date they've scheduled 5 service calls to my home, of which 3 were no shows. In the end, they determined the compressor is defective. They've also informed me that the part is on back order and could take up to 6 weeks to install. In the meantime, my brand new Whirlpool Refrigerator does not freeze or make ice. Shame on Whirlpool and Home Depot. Never again.
(2 days after posting) Just a quick follow up to this review. To date, 5 of my patients who were planning on buying major appliances from HD have thanked me for sharing this information and are now going elsewhere. What goes around comes...
Read moreI bought a washer and dryer sat back in 2016, didn’t really have any issues bought an extended warranty, had an issue with my dryer call them and they were no concerns I came out and pretty much fixed it. Then I had another issue with my dryer, they came out no issues there. However they never fixed the problem, kept calling no one ever called no one ever came out. I just left it and live with a noise. Then my washer had an issue one time in the whole time I had it, so that’s not a big deal the washer soon to be doing pretty well. So I called them schedule an appointment with whirlpool and they were supposed to come out on 4/29/21, I took the day off and they never showed up when I called the woman was very rude to me, like it was my fault they kept saying they didn’t have an address or a phone number, and I said it didn’t make sense they had service my other appliance, and she started screaming and yelling at me told me was my fault why would I take a day off if I had no confirmation, I said I had a confirmation you were come out with 12 to four. I called about 25 times later it’s now 7 PM at night finally got some of the hooked me up with a new date on 5/6/21and confirmed with Colonie Center appliance. Colonie center appliance calls I confirm and they’re like oh we don’t have your extended warranty information we don’t have that you’ll have to call. So I called I let them know they like oh we don’t service with them, so we have to set you up with a new date in a new company which would whirlpool, she said she would expedite it and they would hear from out in 24 hours that was Friday. It is now Tuesday on 5/4/21 and I have still not heard, I checked my claim and it says it’s processing, I try to call I get Home Depot again with another run around, I’m gonna go to Colonie Center and I would pay the 8995 to have my washer looked at. I will never in my life by from Home Depot again or get the extended warranty you’ve lost a lifelong customer and I have spent over $20,000 over my lifetime in repairs, things like that not to mention all little trinkets I buy at your store. I will never step foot in your store again!! Not to mention I will never buy a whirlpool...
