My wife and I were taking our first “post COVID” trip and chose an historic Bed and Breakfast in the Hudson Valley area of NY. I searched restaurants near the B and B and Hudsons Mill came up. The description of the Tavern (yes it is truly a tavern), the photos of the venue, the reviews of the food but most especially the graciousness of the staff made it a must place visit for us.
From the time we arrived, we were not disappointed. The tavern is in a restored mill and the architecture was amazing - lending to the positive ambience we were looking for. Lots of brick work throughout, reclaimed wood and an open warehouse type feel to the entire bar and dining area.
We were greeted at the door by Jim, the manager, who could not have been more welcoming. He welcomed us like old friends and was truly engaging. We moved to the bar for a drink (our table was ready but Jim told us not to rush and to enjoy the bar area experience). He even came over at one point to ask us if we had a preference of tables as he was getting ready to seat another couple… what a nice touch!
At the bar, the bartender, Nicole (?) was busy but that did not keep her from welcoming us and engaging in conversation in between mixing beverages. My wife enjoyed her mule while I tried one of the local IPAs brewed at the brewery adjacent to Hudson’s Mills in the same complex. Both drinks were outstanding!
After drinks we moved to our table… a lovely high top along the back wall. We were warmly welcomed by our server, Gail, assisted by a host of other equally competent and attentive (but not obtrusive) staff.
We started with the calamari and what an excellent choice it was. The calamari was tender, not overly breaded and cooked to perfection. My wife then ordered the lemon chicken on angel hair pasta while I thoroughly enjoyed the Pernil (roast pork) on a bed of rice and beans. All of the food was amazing!
At one point during our visit, the Executive Chef came out from the kitchen to introduce herself to us. What a truly nice gesture.
The tavern was busy, but the noise level not so loud that you couldn’t carry on a conversation.
We were too full for dessert but the choices on the menu looked great.
Although we don’t live in the area, we fully plan to return to Hudson’s Mills again… what a special place and an outstanding experience from start to finish.
Thank you to Jim, Gail, Nicole and the entire staff at Hudsons Mills for the highlight dining experience of our getaway… see you all...

We recently celebrated our wedding there, and we couldn’t have been more pleased.
Our outstanding experience was due in large part to manager Jim Guarasci, whose knowledge, experience, genuine concern and attention to detail was woven into every aspect of the event.
Hudson’s Mill has an attractive, eclectic, industrial vibe. Jim was able to ramp up the esthetic even further, with nuanced decorative touches and subtle punctuations, reverberating every aspect of our wedding theme. The final result – a warm, welcoming ambiance more akin to an at-home family celebration than a formulaic wedding hall affair. He seamlessly helped to coordinate every aspect of our event – from the florist, to the cake baker and everything in between.
The waitstaff and bartenders were absolutely impeccable – polite, attentive and available, yet completely unobtrusive.
And let’s not forget about the cuisine. A vast array of internationally inspired culinary delights were artfully created by Chef Nikki, who truly is an outstanding chef and a tremendous asset. Artisan appetizers, main courses and homemade desserts were the absolute delight of our guests – and Jim even came up with a few signature cocktails!
In short, the event was absolutely flawless – every single detail was handled with the perfect touch.
Thank you Jim and Nikki for creating a once-in-a-lifetime event. Thank you for the countless hours of preparation. Thank you for making our guests feel like royalty, and still feel like family. Thanks for the treasured memories of a perfect event!

Read moreFirst point... service was great! I wish I remembered the waiter's name, but he kept tabs on us without making us feel rushed or hounded. Perfect.
Food was decent. Osso Buco typically made with veal shank was made with pork, but it was clearly stated on the menu and was tasty. The mofongo which came with it tasted OK, but it was so dry and crumbly, I couldn't keep it on the fork. It's one of those sides dishes that you have to make fresh and serve right away. Might not be a good item for a restaurant which doesn't serve a lot of it. Chef should watch a Puerto Rican Grandmother make it and I should have known better...
Calamari was nice and hot, and had a bit of a citrus vibe. Nice twist.
Speaking of Grandma, the appetizer that was a total flop was "Nonna's Artichoke". From the name, you might think it was an actual artichoke... but when it arrived, it turned out to be a bowl of artichoke leaves arranged to resemble a complete artichoke. It was sitting in a pool of broth, and came with a (singular) piece of bread to dip. OK, let's see how it tastes... Broth was a bit light in the flavor department, but the biggest surprise was finding, after we ate most of the leaves, that the heart was missing! We asked the waiter about this in case it was an honest mistake. He came back from the kitchen with "That's how they make it." My Nonna didn't make it that way! I didn't want to be the complainer who makes them take it off the bill, but thinking back, I should have. $19 for a bowl of artichoke leaves while they kept the good part (to use in another dish, no doubt)? GTFooH !
Anyway, the overall experience wasn't too bad. I would visit again, but would likely stick to the sandwiches or less...
