I have been here twice now with my wife. The food is very good, fresh and well prepared. The staff is very friendly and professional. The sea food was very good and the sirloin steak was tasty. The one complaint I have is the 2 seat table tops are tiny. Not enough room to feel comfortable. If I’m going to pay $130 for dinner for 2 seat me where it’s comfortable. Both times I’ve been there I have been seated at the same tiny table. Last time we were there it wasn’t busy. They could have sat us at any one of the 7 or 8 larger tables. The tables were empty the entire time we were there. Based on the tiny tables I’ll think twice if I will go back. A year later we returned. I was a little disappointed this time. It was sunday and the room was 20% filled. They put us between the kitchen window and the wait staff area. As far from the front window as possible. Live guitarist was playing, and he ws very good, but we couldn't see him at all. We ordered drinks. My drink was brought out and as shes putting it down spills some of it. It's ok but attempt to mop it up a little? Nope nothing. No apologies, acted as if she didn't do any thing. I had the rock shrimp appetizer. It was way under cooked. Nothing crunchy at all about it. The batter was still soggy like. There was very little chili sauce on it. Most of the shrimp was super soft and under cooked with this batter on it. Disappointed in it. Service was not friendly at all tonight. Had to ask for bread and was given a little bit of butter for the 4 of us. In all of the time we were there one person came up, just once, to ask if every thing was ok. Everyones dinner was very good. That was enjoyed by all. I still recommend this place but stay away on Sunday's. They have the B team working and they are not...
Read moreThis was a pleasant recent find for us! And we enjoyed it. We keep our boat at the marina in town, and decided to give this restaurant a try. We found the service attentive and the food was appealing. I had the BLT salad which was decent, not tremendous. It's iceberg lettuce with bacon, cheese, and tomato. Get it? BLT? My entree was the Paella. Again, nicely done, nothing over the top, and a very small portion, IMO. Husband had a short rib dish, also tasty, but nothing spectacular. The bread served was ok, I prefer a much crispier crust. It was the usual, Italian-style fair that passes for Italian bread. An uninspired crust encircling a spongy rather gooey center. Really good bread has a good weight and spring to the gluten and a quality oil has been mixed in resulting in a textured, crispy crust with some layering, surrounding a light, airy center that is springy as opposed to gooey.
Picky, I know, but when prices are formidable, I want quality. We will go back and give it another try at which point we can revise this review.
The atmosphere was very nice, and the waitstaff eager and pleasant. The owner moved about, so he clearly is hands on and takes pride in his place and work.
But for me, four stars means really stellar and five stars means spectacular. This...
Read moreDowntown Haverstraw is a place of contrasts. There is a large hardworking immigrant population, and a mix of old and new stores. Many people shy from Haverstraw, but it is a very safe place, with a few great restaurants.
My wife and I had dinner here last night, and what a great treat. The service was the best I've had in years, attentive but not intrusive. Most restaurants ignore your water glass after the main course is served, but they kept our glasses full. About halfway through our meal, I dropped my fork on the floor. I reached down for it, and as I came up a waiter was standing there with a tray, clean napkin, and in the middle a clean fork. I counted about 5 people who at one point or another provided us exceptional service.
From the street, the restaurant looks bland, but once inside it is tastefully decorated and interesting to the eye. It is a great space.
But let's face it, we go out to eat for the food. Every dish we ate was a blend of flavors that made you want to to savor the flavor. My red snapper with crabmeat was superb. The desserts were also fantastic.
This is one of the best restaurants we've visited in Rockland County. Food, ambience, and service were at the level you'd expect in the French...
