I give this rating because when I visited with two other people for us, the experience was just average.
I usually only write reviews if I really enjoy my experience, or something has gone terribly awry, but with prices what they are, and money buying you less, I feel like I should put it out there.
The wait staff was friendly but forgot several things and completely dropped the ball a few times.
We had to ask for drinks repeatedly, and I made a specific request to have part of the fish I was ordering removed, which our server stated was no problem, and considering this restaurant is literally attached to a fish market it should have been especially easy for them to accommodate. And yet, when the dish arrived, what I had asked to be removed was not, which is difficult to deal with once cooked and on the table.
The two skate dishes my family ordered were very tasty.
I had ordered a salmon dish, which was overcooked and not particularly flavorful.
Our fried calamari appetizer was decent, as were the raw clams, or so I am told; I am not a raw clam person, but the individuals I was with absolutely were, and I trust their opinions.
We had a tuna appetizer, however, that was not at all successful in our eyes and mouths. In fact, we did not consume all of it, which is rare for us as a group. The dish was sort of almost like a deconstructed tuna melt? With a piece of cheese, a slice of tomato (I believe) and a thin slab of fully and completely cooked tuna, like, all the way cooked, one uniform color, no searing or grill marks and a skosh bit on the dry side, plopped atop a bed of mushy vinegar drenched greens... I don't know where they were trying to go with this one, but we all agreed it wasn't a trip we wanted to take again.
My co-eaters told me previous visits for them have been great, so I'm willing to give it another try. Maybe it was simply...
Read moreI want to give them a 5 star review but I just can't. This is no reflection of the food (bc I wouldn't know) but more the customer service. My family has been eating here for well over 20 years, when Artie first opened the restuarant counter. We were devastated when they closed. When we found out they reopened I knew we had to get there. With holidays not being the same this year I made dinner reservations for Christmas eve. Was looking forward to it for weeks!!! On Christmas eve morning at 6:15am I received an email that my reservation was cancelled and the restuarant was closed. Now I get it, times are tough, covid, newly reopened restuarant, it happens. At 930 am I called, thought ok the market is open i can still salvage something for dinner. The young lady who answered the phone was so beyond rude. Now I know they were busy, but she was outright inconsiderate and uncaring of the events going on. I was unable to order food bc it needed to be pre-ordered. I asked if they could accomodate since they cancelled my reservation. She was very quick to comment no, the restuarant is closed and they were closing at 5 and there was nothing she could do. I respect the fact orders need to be done ahead but no apology no words of kindness. Not even a Merry Christmas. She commented they were closing early bc its Christmas eve, and I simply replied, I know and im trying to feed my family too, the conversation ended with her saying "i dont know what to tell you" The whole conversation was truly disheartening. If she was at least sympathetic or something or nice in anyway I would have understood. Good thing is Captain Mikes lobster in Oceanside did have some compassion and helped me out tremendously. I hope one day to eat at Arties again as I always loved their food but my opinion of the staff right now has me not...
Read moreWe went here because so many of our friends told it was so good. Unfortunately that was not our experience. The octopus salad was flavorless and the octopus was tough. My husband order a shrimp dish and when he said he wanted it stuffed the waiter told him only 3 shrimp would be in his dish. He figured it would be 3 large shrimp stuffed . Instead the shrimp was a peel and eat shrimp with the skin still on covered with a clump of breadcrumbs and some crabmeat. The Gorgonzola mussels were excellent, which is the only reason I didn’t give one star . I ordered red snapper oreganata , baked potato and Brussels sprouts. The waiter brought out salmon. When I told him I ordered snapper he was rude but everyone at the table told him I ordered snapper. My meal came out after everyone had long finished their dinners , in an aluminum tin , in a bag! Not even on a plate! And they gave me roasted potato instead of the baked I asked for! I was so hungry by then and didn’t want to wait any longer so I ate what they gave me- out of the stupid take home tin. The waiter never came over to asked if we wanted more drinks or if we needed anything. For the money spent, one of the worst dining experiences. The charge for my dinner was removed , but it just didn’t seem enough for the...
