Churrasqueira Carvalhos Rodizio Restaurant — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

This place deserves 5 but the only reason I’m putting 4 is because of this one specific waiter named Ronaldo, if a waiter is what you’d call him. I’ve been coming to this restaurant since I was 10, with my family. I’m 23 now and ever since this waiter was hired, every experience with him has been horrible. We went today and unfortunately he was our waiter, we didn’t even have time to ask for a better waiter, such as Orlando (a really nice attentive server). Every time without fail we order the rodizio. A superb all you can eat round of different cuts of meat with rice, beans, vinagretta, collard greens and vegetables. He takes our order and disappears for the entire meal, we always have to be asking other waiters for water, utensils, refills on vinagretta etc. he finally asks if every thing is okay and we tell him if he could bring us more collard greens. Time goes by and we’re already getting fed up with him so we ask another waiter passing by and he brings it for us. Finally, it’s time to ask for dessert and he asks if we would like anything and we’re debating on what we want and he just walks away mid way through us deciding what we’re going to get. We wanted to order desert but instead of returning to ask us he stayed standing by the bar for 20 minutes. He never came around with the check or anything and we had to ask the bus boy to please get our waiter so we could get the check. He brought it and argued with my father that he only walked away because apparently he heard that we didn’t want any dessert, but the reality is that no one had even decided and he just left. We ended up going home with the craving for their heavenly white but we knew that if we had ordered it he would’ve just taken another 20-30 minutes just getting it for us even though the restaurant wasn’t busy. Previous encounters with him have included him tossing the sugar for my cappuccino on the table, sucking his teeth or rolling his eyes whenever we ask for anything. It seems like doing his job is a problem and he’s always dragging his feet to do anything, I’ve had better service from anyone in that restaurant besides him. We always tip well, even tipped him well a few times but today was the last straw. I love the food, atmosphere and restaurant but this one guy is worst waiter and just kills your mood, if you ever see him waiting your section of the restaurant be prepared to be asking every one but your waiter for anything. He’s rude, slow, inconsiderate, “forgetful”, inattentive and all around incompetent. He’s the worst waiter and if he hates his job so much, he should probably find a job better suited to him because waiting tables is clearly not his calling. I feel bad leaving this review but I’ve had so many bad experiences with him that I can’t hold it in anymore. I love this restaurant but I hate feeling like it’s a gamble with getting him...

First off I never write a complaint, but the manager was very disrespectful. I have to share my experience because I really loved the food and hope they fix this. I’m giving it one star because how rude the manager was.

Food was great! My favorite was the skirt steak and sausage. Service was ok. Was annoyed how the waiter who took our order never came back to check on us. My cousin and I ordered seltzer waters and had to ask other staff to members to get refills. Was surprised at the end when I saw my bill was charged for 5 seltzers! The waiter who gave us the bill was different from the waiter who took our order. I asked him why didn’t anyone tell us there was no free refills? He responded I didn’t take your order... so I asked If I can speak to the manager. He got the manager to come over who was actually sitting down next to us at a table with his family I believe. I had asked him the same question and he goes sorry that’s the policy. I told him I understand but you can have your wait staff be more organized and also tell the guest there’s no free refills. Especially when it’s seltzer water. I know it’s coming out of a fountain not a bottle. What got me upset was his response afterwards and said this isn’t McDonald’s. So I answered back you’re right it’s not McDonald’s and I just expect better service. The whole night he was sitting down with his family as if he wasn’t working. If it’s not McDonald’s shouldn’t he be doing his job doing table touches making sure service is excellent? What’s funny is there’s free refills on meat but you charge for seltzer water from a fountain. If that’s how you want to do business that’s fine at least let the guest know. Just more upset about how rude the manager handled...

Award winning food and prompt delivery service were my expectations of this restaurant which we chose to cater food for our wedding night. Awards were visible all over the wall when we were shopping for catering for our wedding. My wife had eaten here before and loved the food. She pre-paid in full one week before our wedding for a catering package. This consisted of chicken, ribs, mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. Also the time of delivery was agreed upon and the staff reassured her that she would get quality food delivered on time. However on our wedding night, the food was not delivered on time. After twenty minutes my wife called and was told the restaurant was terribly busy and we would have to wait another 20 minutes. Our guests with young children were starving by that time and we had limited time in our rented venue. The food still arrived one hour late. The meat was burnt and dry, the mashed potatoes had no flavor and the vegetables were soggy and over cooked. At the end we threw out most of the food as our guests did not like it. Luckily she had ordered some lasagna from another Italian restaurant and that arrived on time. I would not recommend this place for event catering at all; late deliveries and burnt / overcooked food along with excuses are not award...
