I ordered a cake for my son's birthday. I spent a long time working out the details of the design I wanted. The young lady who helped me was lovely. We found a Mario image, we cropped and blurred certain details and she worked with me for almost 45 minutes to make sure I was happy with the selection. We discussed the details of the layers, the shape and colors for accent. Then came the day I went to pick up the cake. With a prepaid special order, I waited over a half hour from my designated pick up time to get attention from the staff. The numbers that you pull when you walk in to make sure you get service in order DOES NOT APPLY to special order pick up. The cake was a disaster. The image that they printed for me HAD HORIZONTAL LINES running across it, as if the printer didn't have enough ink. The image was applied to the cake and bubbled, as well as had something dark and spotted fall and melt into the image layer. Also- despite the fact that I confirmed with the young lady that the entire top of the cake would have the image, the owner who came over after I started to tear up told me "that's the biggest they can print it." There was almost 2 inches all the way around the top of plain white icing where I expected the Mario image to cover to the edges. I then asked her why I wasn't told that there was a size limit to the image, or told that the whole cake top would not be covered as I discussed with the employee who took my order. Her answer, from the owner was "It doesn't matter what it looks like if it tastes good." Right, right - I do agree - but then I would've taken a box of Duncan Heinz cake mix and prepared one myself. When you go to a place like this, and pay the money that they ask for, you expect them to deliver. And they DID NOT DELIVER. And worse than that, they offered a 50% refund "if I could just wait a few more minutes." With a house full of family and more guests about to show up (because PICKING UP A PREPAID ORDER took nearly an hour) - I took my pitiful excuse for a cake and I left, crying all the way home. I will never, after 40 years of desserts for celebration from them, year after year, time after time, some delicious, but some not as much so, return and place another order at this bakery. Over the last two years, things have gone downhill here and I believe it is because the main baker has left and started his own place (just up the road here on Newbridge Road in Levittown). You can see here for yourself an decide if $175 was appropriate for what they delivered. Make your own decisions, but expected to be disappointed if you choose to patronize Dortoni Bakery...
Read moreI used Dortoni’s bakery in Levittown for years and recommended them to everyone who needed cake. I was trilled when I was informed by Crest Hallow Country Club that Dortoni was their in house bakery. I was advised by CHCC all I had to do was scheduled a taste testing and choose 1 out of 3 cake designs from a package for my twins sweet16. Excitedly I went to Dortoni’s and after picking our fillings and cake the sales person told me sweet16 parties gets a sheet cake. Not wanting a basic sheet cake after spending a small fortune at CHCC I inquired about buttercream decorations and was quoted $385. To have names written will be an additional $75. After mentioning to CHCC about being surprised about the sheet cake I was told I will be getting a refund because CHCC take care of the invoice and furthermore I was supposed to get a 3 tiered cake. What should’ve been fun and and exciting turned into an ordeal. I needed to go back to Dortoni’s 4 times to get my order correct. The person who initially wrote my order did so in an illegible manner that she couldn’t decipher what she wrote. 2nd time I needed to go back was to let Dortoni’s sales clerk know what I was told by CHCC. The young lady became annoyed immediately and said she needed to check with her manager and to wait. I waited for her for about a hour while she served other customers and flashed me dirty looks. When she finally came back and wrote a new order and if I wanted decorations on the new order it would be $170 and I will be reimbursed the difference. 3rd time I needed to return to Dortoni’s because I charged $170 and not reimbursed. After explaining and showing my receipt I was reimbursed my original $385 4th time I wanted the cake decorated with buttercream. I was told to wait while the manager was asked the cost. Again, I waited till I was the last person in the bakery and when someone asked ‘who is that’ only then someone came and sat with me and thoroughly explained and sketched what I was asking for. The cost was an additional $250.00 but I felt listened to and understood. The cake looked beautiful. When it was cut it had thin layer of cake and fillings with 3 inches of something that looked thick cream. The cake tasted awful and I’ve never went back and will...

I ordered a 90th birthday cake for my fathers birthday and gave an image of what i wanted (a book with the title “Himself” my fathers photo under that, and A story of a life well lived written under the photo). It was delivered on time and i was excited to get a picture of it to post online after the party. People started to arrive and i saw that they had mispelled “himself” instead had spelled it Himsefl! I immediately stepped out and called dortonis was put on hold for 10 minutes and was told the bakers were gone for the day and so i should call the next day to “see what they will do about it”. I step back in and see the guests taking pictures of the cake and felt the shame as they started noticing the typo. The hostess of the party tried consoling me that she was sure the cake would be delicious… and maybe my dad wouldnt notice the typo. He did. As the cake was served… i noticed that the bottom layer of my slice was tan and overcooked (was a vanilla cake with canolli filling) and my filling had no chocolate chips. I took a bite and became very upset as the top layer was dry… the over cooked part was oddly chewy… i start looking around the table and noticing half of the 22 people eating have stopped. Some are still eating and talking. I looked at the cake and saw that the middle peices if the cake seemed ok(a small blessing) but the outer peices were like mine. My father did not eat more than two bites and had no idea it was canolli cake (which is his favorite). I called today (tuesday) , and they said someone would be in touch with me by thursday. I know mistakes happen and nothing is ever perfect. So i hope they make good on this. I love this bakery and they did a beautiful job on my dads 80th cake. I reccome d them often and we use them for birthday cakes at work. Im sad that this big milestone birthday was disrupted by this situation and hope to post here that after making me wait for a response that they make good on thier quality promises.i will update this post...
