Salsa Sensation Latin Dance Studio — Attraction in Town of Hempstead

For years I had wanted to begin dancing Latin-American styles; the sensuality, the magnetism that infused each movement was infinitely captivating and seemingly effortless, almost impossible for me to replicate. Always I convinced myself that I was either too busy or hesitant to locate a studio and simply begin dancing, allow myself to enter this world and find my place in it.

I found Salsa Sensation Latin Dance studio, and stepped in as if on needles, tense and tentative. But I as I began moving, dancing, following loud and animated instructions, I fell more and more into the captivating process of learning to dance and getting more in touch with the space, people, and music around me, felt a smile overtake my facial features, and stay for the duration of the class.

Dear reader, you must know that Joanna is an absolutely marvelous instructor! She genuinely cares about both teaching, dancing, and keeping the studio thriving. Every single class Joanna brings the same vibrancy, excitement to teach another class, paired with a caring strictness of a teacher that wishes to see her students succeed. She expertly keeps the attention of a big class, and manages to efficiently review basics, introduce new material, and drill with superb control and encouragement.

My weekly salsa and bachata classes at Salsa Sensation Studio are now genuinely one of my favorite activities to partake in. Once the month ends, I eagerly sign up for the next month - equivalent to the next dance level, so that one can linearly build on what was learned previously! - so I have effectively been dancing all summer :)

In aiding one another with confusing aspects of demonstrated moves and continuing to dance together as levels passed, I have gained sweet friends that made the atmosphere even more welcoming than before. The way the classes are taught, I have the opportunity to both independently practice the moves, hone my technique as well as experience various leading styles from the leaders in my class.

I would readily encourage any beginner dancers to overcome constricting diffidence, and allow the warmth and geniality of the dance community to attract and absorb you; dance to your heart's content, worrying not about perfection and progress, but about an inner sense of accomplishment, happiness, and that certain intoxication that spreads through your body when you succumb to the music and your dance partner's guidance.

Oftentimes, more experienced dancers from higher levels make prolonged visits into our beginner salsa or bachata class; I truly admire their lack of haughtiness and came to recognize that, no matter what dance level one may reach, strong basics will only benefit the dance journey you have chosen to undertake. I have been dancing in Salsa Sensation for a little over 1 year now. And, while I am sure that I am slightly biased, I have to say that if you're interested in dancing, this is the place to be. The atmosphere of the studio is a mix between a huge family reunion and good friends.

The staff has created a wonderful, friendly, supportive atmosphere that makes you feel like part of a circle of friends from the very beginning. The other students, who have all gone through the beginner stage too, are helpful and supportive and cheer you on at whatever level you are.

Practice parties (every Friday) are a great opportunity to work on social dancing skills and points your teacher has been making.

I loved it! At first I was a little nervous cause I had never taken classes like this before but when I came there I felt so comfortable, the crowd is amazing and the instructor (Gustavo) and staff (Day & Johanna) as well. You learn more about your body and you feel sexy at the same time. It’s a great workout and a good time!

From the very first class, I felt welcomed like family. The energy in the studio is amazing—everyone is so positive and supportive, whether you’re a complete beginner like I was or someone with experience.

The instructors are incredible. They’re patient, passionate, and really take the time to make sure you feel comfortable and confident with each step. I was a little nervous at first, but they made the learning process fun and easy to follow. Now, I look forward to every class—it’s the highlight of my week!

What I love most is the community vibe. It’s not just about learning how to dance; it’s about connecting with people, having fun, and building confidence. Plus, the music and energy make it impossible not to smile the whole time.
