In town visiting my mother and Jake's was her suggestion as she had eaten there before. The Place was dead empty, the atmosphere is ok... It looks like every other steakhouse that hasn't been updated in forever, but that's not unexpected. My chair was rickety, I went to swap it out and the one next to it was in the same condition. None of which is a deal breaker, I'm here for the food.
The menu was strange, listing separate prices for EVERYTHING cash vs charge. At no point did anyone ask how we were paying, they just brought the check for the higher prices... Never seen anything like it before. Some stuff had prices with no information... Something like "get it Jake style $4" maybe just tell me what that is on the menu.
For food we ordered some seafood items, some apps and some salads. I wasnt really hungry so I got a chicken sandwich. The Cesar salad was probably the worst steakhouse Cesar my wife has had. The calamari was good. My one daughter's seafood dish was great, she really enjoyed it. My other daughter got the salmon, but was looking to avoid the sauce so she asked if they could leave it off. The salmon she got was overcooked and completely unseasoned she initially didn't want to say anything as she doesn't like to complain. At one point though while eating it the salmon didn't sit right with her and she started to get nauseous. She threw up her salmon and potatoes right back into her dish. It would have been embarrassing but there was nobody else there. I took her to the bathroom, and came back to get her plate. I tried to bring it to a waiter but there weren't any outside of the kitchen. I let the hostess know the salmon made my daughter sick and she threw up. I covered the plate with a napkin and asked her where I should put it. She told me to just put it down on a nearby dish tray. About 10 minutes later the waiter came by to refill waters and asked us how everything was. I asked him if the hostess had mentioned my daughters Salmon making her sick and he said yes. The plate was still sitting covered on the tray... full of salmon and potato throw up, never having been taken away. Seeing me look at it he went and grabbed it and off it went to the kitchen. Nobody ever asked how my daughter was, or if there was a problem with the food. It was on the bill at the end. $40 for overcooked salmon that made my daughter throw up.
I got a chicken sandwich because I wasnt really that hungry. It was overdone and tough, severely under seasoned, Maybe it's my fault for not getting steak at a steak house, but I honestly don't think it would have made a difference other than raise my bill based on the amount of effort I saw in most of the...
Read moreWe went here on a Saturday night. We had a 9pm reservation for 4. We were a bit early so we went in the bar area to have a drink. A few minutes later a young lady came to seat us. She attempted to seat us in the bar area which was noisy and sports bar like. I asked why we were not being seated in the main dining room she said oh nothings available. I told her we were early and we had no problem waiting. She acquiesced so we waited about 10 more minutes and were seated in the main dining area.
The table had a tea light with a candle that was used all the way up and unlit. I had to request for a new tea light candle. We used the LI restaurant week prix fixe menu $28.95 for appetizer, entree and dessert. I ordered the bang bang shrimp appetizer. I was disappointed it was fried in breadcrumbs which is a no no. It should have been fried in cornstarch. The shrimp weren't fresh, they tasted like frozen in a bag shrimp that was probably already cooked before they were fried. The sauce was unremarkable no bang at all.
I then had the NY Strip medium. It was tougher than I expected but I liked the presentation and the red wine sauce was good as well as the bleu cheese and fried onion strips were a nice touch.
The mashed potatoes were disgusting. Straight out of an instant mashed potato flakes box. I was appalled.
We wanted red wine. I didn't want to spend a lot so I saw to choices on the menu that were both $39. I asked the waiter for his opinion on the two $39 wine selections I stressed $39. One of which was a Chianti. He recommended the Chianti. We ordered two bottles. The wine was good. When the bill came there was a $100 charge for the wine. I asked him about it and he showed me the wine list he actually uphold me to the wine just above the $39 wine on the list without informing me of the difference in price (the wine he chose was $45). I felt that was fraudulent and borderline criminal. Furthermore, $45 times two is $90 not $100. I complained so he checked and came back he said the manager would adjust the price of the first bottle but not the second. I said oh really tell your manager I would like to speak with her. He disappeared again and came back and said she would adjust the price of both bottles.
At this point I was exhausted so I was like fine we paid the bill and left an the lowest possible suggested tip +$2 which was $40. Later I looked at the receipt and saw that they deducted only $12. They should have deducted $22 from the original $100.
I will never go to this restaurant again. The food is mediocre at best. And they are fraudulent to the point of...
Read moreWent on a Sunday late afternoon, restaurant wasn’t too packed, we were greeted by the hostess once we walked in and immediately seated. I really wanted to love this restaurant based on all of the great reviews but they fell short with the customer service. I’m giving 3 stars mainly based on the service we received, otherwise the food was delicious. Maybe our waiter was having a bad day because she wasn’t nice and lacked some common courtesy etiquette. I overheard the next table’s waiter introduce herself by name and with a welcoming tone, our waiter didn’t mention her name (I wish I asked for it so I can include it in this review), looked annoyed to be serving us and gave us this look every time we asked for our water to be refilled. The food took extreme long to come out, appetizers took 30mins plus and the main course took another 30mins! No acknowledgement from anyone that our food was anywhere in sight. I actually noticed the table next to us got their food before us and they were seated after us! Then when it came to the end of our meal we wanted to see a dessert menu, we requested one from the person cleaning up our plates/refilling our water and she said she would have our waiter come and give us a verbal dessert menu. Our waiter was no where to be found. After waiting 10-15mins to see our waiter we were tired of waiting and wanted the check. My entire table is looking at the wait staff as they walk by serving other tables and no one is acknowledging us that we may need something, I decide to get up to ask the hostess to please get our waiter because we haven’t seen her in a while and want to leave. At this time I also decided to use the bathroom. As I was walking there, I see our waiter chit chatting in the next room with another waiter!! Unbelievable for a high end restaurant. Still as the waiter finally came back around still no acknowledgment of anything. This is truly unacceptable and we will not be returning to this restaurant even though the...
