Overall my experience at smok haus was very good, I had an amazing time and the food was well-cooked and delicious, as with my other review I have some recommendations and notes about my experience. I came with a group of three at around 12:30 which is prime lunchtime, we were lucky to get a seat, however at around 1 the restaurant became extremely crowded, I recommend you come at around 11:30-12 for an earlier lunch if you plan on coming.
Moving onto the actual food, the barbeque is the best comfort food i’ve had in a while. They had great service and there was very little wait for the food. The craft beer seems to be very good, with it coming from a local brewery called “Lost Farmer.”
For appetizers I ordered the Mexican Street Fries and Rib tips, it may not seem like a very big portion, however with rib-tips, it fed 3 hungry people to the point that they started to question how much they should order for the main entree, I heavily recommend getting the Mexican Street Fries with brisket, it consists of french fries topped with guacamole, sour cream, jalapenos and a variety of different sauces, making an awesome combo and a great starter to your meal
RIb tips - if you are not familiar with rib tips, they are around the same thing as regular ribs, however, they are a bit less tender than traditional ribs, overall these were very good
Entrees - for my entrees, I chose to get a full rack of ribs, beans, cornbread, and brisket. First up i recommend you get a full rack of ribs, I promise you if you get half, you’ll end up ordering the second half in a few minutes, so you might as well save your time and order the whole rack at one time. These ribs fall off the bone and are slathered in a delicious sauce.
The brisket is pretty good I don’t have any notes about this. The cornbread is a bit on the drier side but is otherwise very good.
Overall my experience at smok haus was very pleasant and I heavily recommend going.
Main Points -the restaurant is very flexible, if you request they will offer a viarity of different foods to accommodate you, in terms of an allergy, ex - gluten. -it costs about $55 per person -get the ribs -get Mexican fries -come at around 11:30 if you plan on...
Read moreI tried lunch here on a cold December day. It's a small place, plenty of staff, but not very busy. Smok Haus was OK but not great. Extremely casual. You order at the counter, carry your tray to a table, get your own soda, bus your own table. ~$13.50 for a pulled pork sandwich with a soda and tax. They do have a bar with beer etc. Not relevant in today's weather but there are some outdoor tables too. Table had ketchup. one BBQ sauce and a mustard sauce but no range of BBQ sauces. The BBQ sauce wasn't as flavorful as I'd have preferred. They smoke the meat on premises. Certainly cooked low and slow as the result was appropriately moist and tender, but seemed to me to lack the smokiness I expect in genuine BBQ. Sandwich includes coleslaw and pickles on the side. Do environmental regulations keep them from letting the cooker get real smoky? It pains me to suggest that maybe they should cheat with a dash of liquid smoke for the flavor. The soda machine offered Coke, diet Coke, Coke zero and diet Doctor Pepper. lemonade, Fanta Orange, but no regular Dr. Pepper. The selection seems overly limited to me as I try to avoid artificial sweeteners. No regular Dr Pepper on offer. They do have a variety of flavored teas sold over the counter at the register, but not at the self-serve fountain. The staff seems to still be getting their act together as the place is new. I ordered my sandwich, and was told by the fellow making it "I'll meet you at the register". I went to the register but my sandwich, it turned out, accidentally was served to someone at the bar instead of coming to me, so they had to make another one. Ooops.
They have wetnaps to help after the juicy sandwich. There's a Unisex restroom which was clean and had one of those powerful new electric hand dryers that really work.
The location is on the north side of 12th St. in Garden City across the street from Sears, behind a funeral home on Franklin Ave. Plenty of parking behind the restaurant and you don't have to drive - It is midway between the 11th St and 13th St stops for the N40 and N41 bus lines on Franklin Ave. Not a bad walk from the Mineola or Garden City LIRR...
Read moreMy husband and I went to the Garden City location based on the reviews. I ordered the Fundido cheese dip with pork, a chili cheese dog, rib tips, and a pastrami taco. He ordered a bratwurst, pastrami and brisket. He had the gimblet and garden city tea for cocktails and I had the sangria.
We arrived 20 minutes to 3pm, so while having a cocktail we waited for happy hour to begin at 3pm. We moved to the bar and the first thing I noticed was how uncomfortable the bar stools are. The drinks were not strong at all and tasted like only the mixes used.
The Food: Fundido dip which is queso was watery and flavorless. The pork on top was flavorless . I ate only 3 forks and was done.
The chili on my chili dog lacked depth, there were no complex flavors and also was a disappointment, how ever with added pickled onions and jalapeño slices I finished it.
The brisket was the worst brisket we’ve ever tasted. There was absolutely NO seasoning on it. I couldn’t believe how bad it was.
The pastrami also was flavorless. My husband added salt to it, which is unheard of when eating pastrami.
I took one bite of my pastrami taco and didn’t eat any more of it, my husband who didn’t want to waste the food added salt and ate it.
The “rib tips” were actually small ribs but were dry and also flavorless. I ate 1 and didn’t want anymore.
The bartender who I think may have been the manager overheard us discussing how bad the food was and generously gave us 10% discount, so the bill was $109 instead of $121. We frequent ALOT of restaurants and specifically BBQ places because we LOVE good BBQ. I can’t believe there were awards on the wall for their ribs. I don’t know if they were awarded then the recipes changed or maybe it was just an off day for the kitchen, but it comparison to other places and just standing alone this was the worst BBQ restaurant we’ve dined in. I hate that to be true because we had high hopes of becoming...
